Two reasons. We have a guild system for doctors that prevents an adequate number of doctors from being graduated in order to keep prices high. Everyone knows that it is hard to get into medical school but why? Nobody ever talks about how hard it is to get into physics or math programs even though they are much more difficult subjects than medicine which is mostly just memorization. It's because there is no organization limiting the number of math colleges like there is for medical schools.

Second, insurance is a form a socialism. It's entirely possible within a free market economy to create pockets of socialism and even communism. Hippie communes in california are communists pockets in a capitalist nation. Likewise, everyone who buys health insurance is basically willingly joining a socialism organization.

If you want to solve health care cost in america, ban all forms of guilds like the AMA. Ban health insurance that isn't high deductible. That won't entirely get ride of health insurance socialism but it can get rid of some of it. Some people will be fucked by high deductibles but that's unfortunately just how capitalism works.
