Also I took advantage of a $100 rebate to buy a Switch (plus 10% discount, plus either 1.5% or 6% cashback, it wasn't clear on the amount), all in all I should be ahead by about $150-$200 if I sell it at market value.

A lot of people seem to be moving to Flesh and Blood (seems more serious) or Metazoo (feels more like gen1 pokemon, but with cryptids). There's also the Sorcery tcg, which I wouldn't take financially, but they have tons of gorgeous 80s-style fantasy artwork. Rudy from Alpha Investments seems to feel that the 25-30 year old RL cards that are still in mint condition are almost museum quality, eg Alpha power 9 cards. I think I agree with him to an extent, but there's very few left in the world in such good condition.
If Hasbro were to get bought out, become insolvent, or branch off MTG, that would signal an end of an era in a way. At that point, I think cards would just slowly drift up in value (even commons, though it would take years) since there would be no new supply. But then someone would just buy the rights and continue the franchise, everyone has too much sunk cost to let it just disappear. So it's hard to say.
At the very least, I've spent over 18 years playing that damn game so it has sentimental value to me on some level too

>>52437363
You joke, but as of September, it was among my best performing boxes. I specifically grabbed OGW because people thought it was a weak set, was about 7 years old / opened a ton, and was just on the cusp of when boxes really start to take off. So far it's been decent.

>>52437376
>I'm sorry anon, but you are bagholding
That's fine, it's better than holding $10 commander/modern rares that will get reprinted a million times. I still want to own some cards, but I don't want to have them in cards/boxes that won't appreciate. I know there's probably better things to park my money in, but at least they're not in that category specifically.

>>52437366
You have a very valid point, and high end RL will probably take a bath, but people were also saying the same thing going into Covid. However, I think we're just getting into the start of a multi year bull run. This year is still pushed and overprinted, but imagine the next year or two, when people are financially hemorrhaging and can barely afford nice things, let alone sitting on sealed product. WotC will probably cut production and rein in some of the volume, which means less boxes to go around next year.
Though if they were hoarding Legends as a treat, and modern shit isn't selling, it's hard to know exactly how much volume of whatever cards exist. Actually I wonder if the Legends inserts were testing the waters to see how much they could push the Reserve List.

Yes but buying boxes is still bad. Your oldest bag is from 2019 and you are up a whopping 4.6% in 3 years time. Its still incredibly risky to invest in it because of China wanting to eat Taiwan and being able to do it at any time (I don't think the US would actually risk nuclear war, we'd back off).

For Berkshire, this isn't a lot of money, its a gamble they may 5x in the future if China chills out. For people like us, idk. Depends on your risk tolerance.

If car prices are up due to lower supply (reduced manufacturing) and higher demand (general and targeted demand from Carvana etc), that's one thing.
How is that not equivalent to housing having lower supply (less support of infrastructure, prohibitive cost, zoning issues) and higher demand (REITs and boomer investors buying single family houses for rentals)?

China won't invade Taiwan until America's foundries are built. Taiwan will 100% sabotage their chip fabs if they are attacked and without their chips the world halts and people go mad, meaning if China invades Taiwan, America and the rest of the world will defend Taiwan.

Yeah it's under the research tab under bonds/fixed income. There's a yield table that shows you the highest or median yields by type/rating and duration. Interface is kinda clunky compared to stock trading and I'm sure they're pocketing some money on bid-ask spreads (all orders are OTC) but buy orders fill very fast for treasuries and there is a wide variety of corporate/muni debt you can buy too if you want to go that route.
