A leaf posted this a while back.
I think spring is when we see action.
Crypto is taking a shit, inflation is about to be impossible to ignore, inventories are being drained, and people are now beginning to look to havens for wealth preservation.
I saw a working stiff Mexican at my local coin shop the other day.
He's not the norm, though it was note worthy.
I'm doubling down on my pm purchases for the next two months.
If I'm right then my stack is slightly larger.
If I'm wrong then my stack is slightly larger.

My copypasta answer responds with, "Here are some options to consider" so you can decide for yourself.
- When a new series of artful or themed bullion (especially coins) is issued, the first of the series are usually missed by later collectors. They will pay high premiums to fill in the series. Consider the potential for series' popularity: generic and/or cringeworthy-themed series are less likely to appreciate above spot.
- Low-mintage series are often priced very high, but may increase in price the most (consider design popularity!).
- Gov't-issued coins cost least while minted. Once the mintage stops and dealers run out of stock, the prices jump then rise more slowly but still faster than generic silver. Maples, Eagles, Wieners, Britannias, etc. are all nice but boring. The mint may add a privy to add novelty thereby ginning up the price. Stuff that changes overall designs from year to year become series (Somali elephants, Canadian Wildlife, Australian kookaburras or koalas, island nations' series, etc.).
- If you buy pieces that appeal to your sense of art, taste, and interests, you will still appreciate them even if the price or value of the PM goes nowhere. Caveat: if you go to sell, it's harder to part with them.
- Some beautiful generics are priced comically high (Germanias, GSM special editions, e.g.) - they don't follow the market trends as readily, garnering peak price only while fashionable. Be aware: dealers may categorize and price these as "generic" (meaning below spot) when buying them from you. Or the gamble might pay off as they become very popular (Englehard, PAMP, antique miners/refiners, e.g.).
- For new generic bars, watch the markups over spot: premiums (added charges) go up for smaller pieces.
- Shipping is an added premium. Many vendors offer free shipping for purchasing a minimum amount (commonly $200).
- Keeping a spreadsheet of your purchases to track profit/loss is quite revealing and will help you make future decisions.

Going to a gold prospecting club tomorrow in Wa to meet the local gold planners. Already found 10g of gold on my own in Cali/Arizona, but was too busy with school and too far to make a genuine effort. Now I'm employed and gonna spend every weekend digging for that yellow shiny. On top of using my big boy salary to stack silver to the ceiling.

I genuinely recommend to find out if there's gold in the rivers near you anons, it's something primal that awoke in finding gold, being out in the wilderness away from npcs, standing in a beautiful river, working hard and smart, then when you see that sun-lit glittery gold in your pan/sluice box... It's hard to explain. Ask me if you have questions faggots.

Also works when you’re next to the Autobahn, but I agree, wilderness would be neat.
It appears the Boulders cancel out the outside bed. Had hoped for some bigger stuff, since that should be right in the Talweg where the largest stuff moves in flood, but I’ll keep testing out some more spots at the various boulders.

This one seems interesting. Huge boulders, wedged into a crack. So should be quite high flow. However, it’s outside bend as outside bend can be. But seems like flow changes a bit during flood.

It’s on my list. But not sure if it’s gonna be that good because it’s the outside end of the outside bend. Also, it’s not bedrock, but rockfall from the rock face above the river. So not sure how deep it goes until there’s some surface for gold to catch on.

The one with the dry grass on top I can get to with dry feet? I did dig behind it, you can kinda see where I removed the packed gravels until I reached a layer of silt. 3 colors per pan. Not great, not terrible. Gotta clean out the cracks and dimples on top the next time I’m there. The mossy one behind it looks nice too, but that’s something for summer.
That second thing, yeah, I figured that’s gonna be a lot of work to clean out. Not sure if I wanna go for that when I’m having 2.5 hours available at max. Unlike my other spot, that all looked very unworked, so I probably won’t have anyone else getting it soon.
My Pt thingy isn’t dull. So maybe some stainless steel flake? I’ll see what my magnet does with it when it’s dry.
Anyways, thanks for the input! Always very helpful to throw some ideas back and forth with someone else!
(Pic kinda related. Gravels packed so thight that it was playing reverse how-the-fuck-did-that-even-get-in-there Tetris to clean out, but only one flake is n 5 pans. But my fake bedrock was tilted downward under the boulder, so I had to stop mid-slope)

Probably around 120 hours, but hard to be exact. I consider myself a beginner and have ventured out to new rivers on my own a few times, so there are some hours spent just exploring for a good spot. Spent about 400$ on equipment (which should last me a lifetime) plus fuel costs. I would say I'm about breaking even atm, but I almost always get more gold than fuel spent so as I continue this hobby I will quickly move into profit since the bulk of money spent was the initial equipment. also you get more gold the more experienced and knowledgeable you get as time goes on

I agree. But in such a boulder field, that's really hard. I guess I go down to whatever level I can reach, and that's the best I can do.

I have a sluice, but its considered an "undercurrent sluice" which is a modified design that allows me to shovel the dirt/rocks directly into it without worrying about taking out medium sized rocks, unlike a basic sluice which you have make sure to remove most rocks. Undercurrent Sluice design is borrowed from the motorized dredges, which move a fuck ton of dirt. Because I can just stand there and shovel material into this sluice as fast as I want and don't have to take extra time to get rid of most rocks(aka classifying) I can get a whole lot more gold for my time spent. And as a bonus I can choose to just stand in the river itself next to the box and dig right there, which keeps me cool and refreshed.

I'm well over a kg and regret it. It's impossible to safely offload because it's scrap, so it would likely get confiscated for money laundering concerns. Even if I can sell it id take a haircut because no-one actually buys pms at spot price. I'd lose 5% just making it worth someone's while. Its a huge risk to store due to burglary concerns, insurance would never cover it etc.

Price wise it's performed horribly and hasn't remotely kept up with inflation let alone stocks , crypto etc.

I still believe it's worth having a small amount of Pms but that much gold is ultimately a liability.

the best regions to look for gold are where many different geologic processes have occurred in the past. Areas where metamorphism, mountain building and volcanism are places gold can be allowed to appear. Gold is most commonly found in quartz veins, in their own many different forms. thats a fairly good kit but a bit overpriced. You dont need all that gear if your looking for placer gold. A simple steel gold pan, a set of basic shovel / pick and some kind of tool to break up material in cracks will work fine. A sniffer bottle is also a must to slurp up fine gold in your pan.
If you want a pan that is easy to learn on, i suggest the Garret Super Sluice, its a fantastic durable pan thats very forgiving to the new panner.

Canada mint & royal mint have great safety features, so if you are of the mind that you may want to resell in future - consider their products. Their premiums are reasonable unlike ASEs.
Otherwise go for weight and buy random (these are former customer buybacks) rounds and bars.
If you want new rounds - golden state mint has reasonable prices for rounds
their morgan rounds are quite nice looking.

That sounds quite appealing,
>The specific one I bought was from https://calsluice.com/
and I'm a sucker for websites straight from the early 00's (gimme logical, information dense pages!), but it's probably gonna be prohibitively expensive to get into europe.
Guess any sluice with some riffle matting is probably gonna work. What I don't understand about sluices, how is length related to recovery/speed? I'd guess the longer the better, but there's many sluices under 0.5m (less than 2ft) and that seems awfully short to me. Or stuff like pic related. Kinda tempting, since I need something that I can carry wihtout a car, but again, seems really tiny.

In general, it is easier to avoid theft committed by crack-heads and the like than it is to avoid theft by government and its cronies. Street criminals are generally stupid and in a hurry. They can be delayed, diverted, and tricked easily. Also, at least in the USA, you can kill them if you catch them. Banks, on the other hand, are smart. At the slightest whim of government, they will turn over your Safe box instantly because they exist only as a creature of government grace. And killing bankers will not turn out well for you. Will your government tell the banks to freeze your safe box and confiscate the contents? They have no moral or ethical inhibitions from doing so. The only reason they would not is if they don't have a reason to want to do it. But ALL governments will throw your ass and assets under the bus the moment it is even slightly convenient to do so. In sum, a safe box in a bank is only safe as long as the government doesn't feel that private ownership of PMs is a threat in some way. If, for example, the BRICS issue a gold-backed trade currency to compete with the USD, western countries very well might see private ownership of PMs to be a threat and want to have a little peak inside your safe box to make sure you are not a terrorist PM speculator. If you think you can anticipate when things are going from bad to worse, and clean out your box before the government does, then a safe box is a decent place to have some of your eggs.

As such, they are a bit of a hedge on silver and gold. Of the three, only platinum is practical for high-value stacking. But if anyone knows where I can get an ingot of moly or copper near spot, I would be interested.

I think part of it is because they're an old established brand, made a lot of silver products in the 80's with plenty of variations for collectors to hunt down. They also aren't crazy expensive, that bar was maybe $10-$20 more than a generic 10oz. EngelDaddy was also the real life inspiration for Goldfinger.

Germany was gold-poor at the time after the faggotry of Versailles. They had to pay debts. Also the NatSocs backed their currency on the value of their labor force, rendering gold obsolete. They did stack what they had as bullion, and they used it partly to found banks for jewish resettlement of Palestine.
>"The SS concluded written Agreements with the Zionist organization to ensure that Jews in Germany or under their control were forced to emigrate, selling their assets, the proceeds of which were placed in German bank accounts which would be available to the Jewish Agency for the purchase of goods and services from Germany IF the deportee agreed to settle in Palestine."

That £ or $? I'd get the coins, but I've never been too concerned with stacking as close to spot as possible. I just buy what I like.

After seeing both sides, I do like it a little more. Tough to say. Look on aliexpress to see if that coin is made by counterfeiters there. I nearly bought a solidus on eBay earlier in the year, then I found the EXACT picture on aliexpress. It was 100% a fake and I nearly spent a grand on it. Don't think I'll ever buy 'gold' items on eBay, LCS or coin shows are the way to go. I like to go to the Elks lodge in town and chat it up with the old men, they're all looking to part with cool shit to interested people

both are heavy industrial metals, they are critical for industry, tech and military applications but are bulk commodities, so not really something you need to worry about stacking.

People in /pmg/ are picking up gold panning? That's epic. Another fun thing is metal detectors, if you're in Europe or east coast USA, you can find quite a lot of silver coins.

I work for a bank whose name I won’t disclose. You fools. You have no idea what you’re doing. No idea how serious this is. This isn't a simple get rich quick scheme. If there’s a short squeeze on gold and silver, all the banks will fail. Every single one. Eight of them are short gold and silver and they would have to pay trillions to cover shorts if gold and silver got to triple digits. The entire financial system will be destroyed if you do this. Gold and Silver is to the banks what GME is to Melvin Capital. Is this what you want to happen when we’re in the middle of a pandemic? If the banks fall apart you will wipe out every single person who is holding dollars. What the hell is wrong with you. America will be destroyed. If you do this, don't think that we won't take away your gold and silver just as we disabled your manipulated short squeeze stocks you unAmerican traitors. You've been warned.

Watch videos to learn what you can! And feel free to ask for help from other panners you run into! Being a trashbag to dispose of any lead you find, and any trash you find as well, whether it's yours or not. Fill in your holes and undo any dams you make for the sluice when you finish. Lastly check local laws for example Washington state requires you have a copy of fish and game regulation either on paper or electronically on your person when digging good luck and post pics
