I didn't make any money today but I'll sleep well knowing my puts I bought today will print when the panic race the the exit begins again within the next month. 2000s touched it 3 times then broke when there were no buyers. Though SPX did rip 5% to put it above for a few weeks, but on the retest it failed again (the retest pattern looks a lot like 2008s)

Something kind of interesting: Of the top 20 biggest percentage gain days in the history of the S&P 500, TEN of them have occurred in the 2022 bear market alone. Picrelated.

That said, today was the largest by far; but THAT said, I think today was kind of skewed by the fact that yesterday was a gigadump. It is only up 3.2% relative to November 8, 3.2% being much more in line with the gigapumps we've seen in this market.

Idk. Peak-to-trough, the length of this bear market is still short relative to 2000 and 2008. I guess whether we've seen the bottom or not depends on whether the current economic crisis is on par with 2000 or 2008. What do you bros think?

all depends on the Fed and what they do with rates + QE/QT
so by extension the inflation metrics they are using
their goal is 2% and we are still pretty fair off but the market will try to price in any rogue eye twitches as a pivot or sign that rates will increase slower or even stop increasing

We might crash at some point but a sustained long term rally is impossible until market conditions are healthier. (inflation around 2%, fed balance sheet run off, real GDP growth, interest rates stable for some time).
At that point we won't even need a stimulus to have a bull run, but it probably won't be as lucrative as the 2009-2022 bull run due to the lack of QE and 0 rates.

But I bag held puts for like 10 days leading up to FOMC and then only broke even on them because I was early. Then bought more puts right after and took the loss on them yesterday. Then actually got the CPI right and held a call spread overnight, closed that out at market open today and then bought more puts right after thinking we would at least give back a little bit of the early pump, didn't fucking happen. I made hundreds of successful trades from 9/15 to 10/15 and now I'm just shaken. Confidence heemed. Exuberance gone. But Im not smoking, drinking, jerking off, or having coffee anymore so I guess that's something. I agree with you in principle, but the thing is, the stock market is different from ever before, as evidenced by 10 out of the 20 biggest percentage gains of all time being in the past year alone. There has to have been an underlying change in the stock market for this type of unprecedented volatility. My hypothesis is a change in attitude of retail participants; they don't care about fundamentals.

Retail today is a mix of WSB types, and people with a latent Occupy Wall Street mentality they've held since they were teenagers, and all those participants just buy buy buy not due to fundamentals, but because they have a fuck-it attitude towards wall street and just want to build generational wealth in a ponzi scheme manner.

That is why we now have clown market. The market consists of retail participants who don't care about fundamentals, and Wall Street, who takes advantage of the retail participants. Fundamentals have almost no place in the equation anymore.

I disagree, I think retail plays a key part in it. Hedge funds are full of non-retarded people, so for them to act retarded, the retardation would basically be forming out of a vacuum. I mean look at the recovery from the covid crash, and ensuing bull run. Did educated, market-savvy people make the call that a 60% NASDAQ bull run was justified by fundamentals? I think not. I think retail made the call that "we are gonna just buy lmao," and hedge funds read the sentiment and played along, siphoning money from retail along the way.

$SPX 1 day ROC. The spikes between 2009 and 2020, the fed stepped in.

See the widening ranges in 2008. Fed didn't step in until something snapped.

Similar to now, we have widening ROCs, increased volatility, no fed pivot as of now, and horrible earnings.

You’re thinking about it wrong.

YoY CPI numbers are:
June 9.1%
July 8.5%
Aug 8.3%
Sept 8.2%
Oct 7.7%

Inflation is decreasing and has been since June. It is not just increasing at a slower pace.

The markets tanked in Aug/sept because inflation didn’t seem to be stubbornly high and people anticipated it would take a lot of time and rate hikes to get down towards 2%.

Now it appears that inflation is decreasing more quickly than anticipated (in past months) so assets are mooning as this would imply a shorter period of high interest rates and a faster return to loose monetary policy.

It's short sighted copium. If the stock market rallies, that means looser financial conditions and inflation goes down "only slowly" again, or even goes up.

There's still 5.7% down to go, and it was painful to lower it only 1.4%

and these are government numbers possibly fudged. if real inflation is any higher than that it makes it harder to control, as deeper problems creep into society and you can't hide those by manipulating a monthly report.

>The stock market is not the economy though
The stock market runs on QE + ZIRP. The reason that "bad news is good news" right now is because the market believes it will force the Fed to prematurely pivot before they destroy the economy. The entire bull run from 2008 onwards was because the Fed was buying up bonds and kept the FFR near 0. It's easy to invest in the market when you know that the Fed will always be there to pump your bags. Right now have a Fed that cheers when the market goes down.

>What's preventing you from letting the past go?
Honestly, I believe the Moderna vaccine caused my father's cancer to spread at a rapid pace. And just the things that I saw spending 12 hours+ a day in the cancer center with COVID restrictions still in place. The knowledge that COVID was really just an excuse to reset the economy and literally kill off guys like my dad. The wealth gets transferred to the younger, dumber generation (me) with the knowledge I'm gonna piss it away goombling options even though I have proven to myself I can do it successfully. I read the Protocols of the learned elders of Zion and the books of Moses and am kind of frozen stiff with my beliefs and knowledge of how true it all is. I just kinda realized this week at this pace, I'll be 80 years old myself still bitching about the same things. Idk I just can't move past it. I also gave up on CPA exam to trade options and I'm not going back now. I was 2 for 2 on those exams. They expired and I would have to retake shit i already passed because nobody cares about your mental health if you have money and aren't an accountable wage cuck. Read what the protocols say about the houses of goyim millionaires. It's by design.

As someone fairly knowledgeable in this area, I think that is unlikely. But, that doesn't help you. For the purposes of our conversation I'll assume that your belief is correct.
>And just the things that I saw spending 12 hours+ a day in the cancer center with COVID restrictions still in place.
Yeah, hospitals are incredibly fucked up. I watched both of my parents effectively starve to death in them. I have similar rage. It's lessened over time, but only because I've been beaten down and it's David v Goliath times a thousand.
>The knowledge that COVID was really just an excuse to reset the economy and literally kill off guys like my dad.
I mostly agree with you on the first part. I think it serves many purposes.
>The wealth gets transferred to the younger, dumber generation (me) with the knowledge I'm gonna piss it away goombling options even though I have proven to myself I can do it successfully.
As an American of old anglo stock, i know this well. So many of my family grew up well off and none of the children are reproducing, many are addicted or otherwise struggling. Ample wealth squandered.
>I read the Protocols of the learned elders of Zion and the books of Moses and am kind of frozen stiff with my beliefs and knowledge of how true it all is. I just kinda realized this week at this pace, I'll be 80 years old myself still bitching about the same things.
Yeah. I don't feel dissimilarly.
>Idk I just can't move past it. I also gave up on CPA exam to trade options and I'm not going back now.
I guess the trick for both of us is to figure out what we can do with our current hands (card game analogy). The deck is stacked against us. How can we win? Or, how can we lose the least? Generally, i think, by not letting those who have stacked it against to win as easily as they'd like. Though, I do think they'll win.
Shit's tough. I'm sorry.

charlie munger says get to 100k invested even if you have to buy everything with a coupon and walk to work until you get there.
I have been driving a 30 year old truck, I budgeted $300 a month for food and saved 40% of my income for the past 5-6 years. No trips to greece to take instagram pics. only traveling to see family in the holidays and even then would buy my tickets ahead of time for like $200-300. granted i own 20 acres and bought a house last winter. Now that i have those things secure i am just stacking.

>I have similar rage. It's lessened over time, but only because I've been beaten down and it's David v Goliath times a thousand.
So you know then. It's just one big humiliation ritual. Unironically, I stopped reading the bible Towards the beginning of David's story before he becomes king but after he defeated Goliath and the king was jealous of David. Idk where I was going with that.
>none of the children are reproducing, many are addicted or otherwise struggling. Ample wealth squandered.
Yea that's me, except I sort of got it together and got into accounting like my old man. Now I just don't leave the home too much. Which just makes me more bitter and angry over time. But I don't drink, smoke, or drink coffee any more, and I can run 7 7:30 miles after doing all those things for years. Idk 1 step forward 3 steps back. Last month was 2 steps forward. This week was 5 steps back. Back to the drawing board.
>How can we win? Or, how can we lose the least?
Well for me it's always the same. Small position goes against me. Small position becomes big position. Goes against me further. Lock in loss. I actually was proud as fuck for being stubborn enough to hold a big put position for 11 days to breakeven. Breakeven ended up being the right play. They gave me a freebie. And I should have turned my computer off and done something else. Then I turn right back around and did the same thing again. Retard. I deserved the heeming. It just hurts. Thought I was beyond that shit. It's literally the same thing as my golf game. Shank initial tee shot, 3 off the tee, bogey the hole. Like c'mon bonehead.
