Taking out your original investment can feel comfy and reassuring that you can lose nothing but the time you invested.

his initial investment isn't any more 'real' money than the rest of his portfolio. If selling is a good idea, it shouldn't be informed by how much he put in. It should be informed by how much he needs, and how profitable/unprofitable it would be to take it out of the market.

They unironically believe this. I stopped giving them advice a while ago, now i wait for the day of the wojacks and still have 20x my original investment in crypto with 8x in my safe at home. I crack up every time I see someone talk about hodling their 200k until it is 2MM. I assume that to be this brazen about the risk they are already wealthy or have no prospects other than mcdonald's or something. Still, a measured approach to taking profits in this market is what will separate the wheat from the wojacks.

Oldcels don't know shit about the world. They just want to jerk off their ego about their son the lawyer. What are they gonna say when their wagecuck colleagues ask? Nah my son is a NEET and making money from home? Lol Oldcels think that's a meme that's why they're poor and working on the Jefferson account for 70hrs a week while their wife gets tag teamed by the tradie and the NEET who weren't bound by their parents prestige cuck shackles

If this is real, well done, anon. But you must remember that it is not the most usual thing. Do you really believe that we don't try? I've passed through some shit too (even worse than you), and I do still have my little successes. But not everybody can do what you (allegedly) did.

And of course, crypto isn't all. In fact, I mined BTC some years ago, but that HDD died (fuck, it hurts), so I started again a few months ago, now I'm just investing small amounts.

It's great advice. You will become a much less emotional trader if you take out your initial.

Also stop showing your portfolio to your family it's a recipe for future embarrassment if the market does pop.

This. It may not be the perfect move objectively or in hindsight when you can evaluate what the market "did" instead of what you think it will do BUT it's hard to put a price on ensuring that your decisions about money are emotionless.

You need to understand boomer lingo and boomer psychology. "Solid long term plan" means 1) you need to see the future so you better not make any mistakes and somehow you need to achieve success despite taking no risks at all 2) whatever you're doing regardless of its level of success is unacceptable because they have a loose and undetailed vision for what you should be doing in their head that probably fluctuates hour to hour. They can't fully appreciate that if you attempted to follow this vision in their head 99% of the time it would fail because its formulated on flawed premises that barely applied when they were in their prime years, let alone now in an enormously different economic and global landscape. Their psychology is pretty much this: they grew up in the most prosperous period of the U.S. with fiscally responsible parents forged in the Great Depression, as they grew up and gained power they cannibalized the dollar to keep the party going. They had opportunities that will probably never exist again, due in part to their actions. They created the economic Hellscape that is modern times and yet seem to blame the next generations for not being able to navigate it in the same ways they did. Nothing sums the boomers up quite like arming the Taliban in the 80s, having those same people fly planes into the WTC on 9/11, sending millenials and later generations to go die in the wrong country as a result, then return them home to an economy that was as ruined and broken as the Depression, then proceed to call that generation "entitled." Anyone with any knowledge of economics and history can look at what happened on the boomer's watch and see everything happening now is a direct consequence. So 1) dismiss almost everything they say, because they'll package the worst advice in the world as compassion, then piss on you when you follow it and it doesn't work out. 2) take intelligent risks, make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, and adapt to current conditions.

This. Can’t wait to see boomers die in hell hole nursing homes that they created to house their dying parents. God it will feel so good to see them cry and moan about their ungrateful kids just leaving them to waste away in this hell hole. I hope they know how much worse they deserve. But I doubt it. There’s no creature on earth more entitled than the boomer.

Gonna be one soon, just an aide right now. Talking to the nurses I know pay's decent. It's a lot more relaxed and laid back of an environment versus a nursing home or a med surg floor. Home visits are pretty nice too, get to meet a whole bunch of different people. You'd think hospice would be super depressing all the time, but there are a decent amount of people who accept where they are in life and are really upbeat about everything. The last week or so when the body is beginning to shut down is always pretty hard though

>> No.5228863

Eh, the "house money" meme is a little shitty because it ignores opportunity costs, but it's not terrible advice depending on how much 10k would mean to you.

For instance I'm gainfully employed and more than cover my expenses with my salary so I don't need to cash out my initial investment, crypto going to zero wouldn't ruin me. But if you would be ruined by it then it is good advice.
