I'm looking at places to live in London and the place I used to rent from a few years ago has put its rents up by almost 50%. This is to live in the tiniest studio flats known to man. Living in a tiny flat is degrading as fuck.

A salary of £50k is now fuck all in London. I currently make that outside of London but wanted to explore different jobs. It seems dumb now.

This country is going totally downhill. Invasion by foreigners, landlord crushing regulations that will reduce housing supply, Labour set to come in and increase the level of parasitism, old people being the world's biggest leeches, benefits leeches exalted as the highest form of humanity, etc.

London is FUCKED FUCKED DUCKED.

I have been living in tokyo for 6 years, but keep an eye on London/UK obviously.

these days you are looking at 700-900 quid a month for a ROOM IN SOMEONES HOUSE. Thats with shared amenities most the time. ITs so bad.

people used to think Tokyo was "bad" becase people live in smaller apartments etc, but now days i think London is a fucking joke compared to Tokyo. the average person gets fucked hard in london and has to pay so much more for so much less and will never save money.

In Tokyo you can live in the equivalent of Ealing from central, get a 20 meter room, separate toilet, bathroom, and cooking area with a balcony for £300 a month at most. you can live central as possible for more like £500 for the same. This is much more tolerable as it is actually a fucking apartment for one person, not a room in someones house.

Honestly, London is absolutely a travesty now for normal people. raped.

Ahh yes its the poor people that are the problem, the huge corporations shouldn't have to pay tax and those bankers need bigger bonuses.

Former Londoner, yeah, a one-bed flat I used to rent near Finchley that was £900pcm before Covid is now £1500 - and that's cheaper than some of the alternative (£1600-1800 seems more common). Don't know if I'd move back because of the crime though.

Retards in San Jose and San Francisco have been paying double that to rent a room for years.

It's not a matter of tax (but I'm not anti tax). It's the immigration. 300 000 foreigners, each year, in the UK can't do anything but boom the property prices. And wreck the labour market.

>>52222562

Yup. The "Tokyo is expensive !" is a pure cope. Same for Seoul. Prices are literally halved compared to London, and you won't be stabbed by a madman in the streets.

Yes, but not compared to the UK. UK taxes are spread out all over the place in a way that makes them appear lower than they are (for example, there is an income tax called 'National Insurance' that never gets cited as part of income tax percentages).

I pay £13k rent per month for a five-storey townhouse in a prime white-dominated Zone 1 area

It's great. Stop being poor.

OP, you're right, 50k will get you nowhere in London. But where else are you going to go? You can live in a much smaller town and be relatively better off but if you want a big city then... there's no other choice, is there.

You have to either be in London, or somewhere completely different like York (nice place) which is still expensive anyway. Or just go into the countryside, but unless you have a family already that is sad.

It's probably the nicest, cleanest, whitest city in the UK, anon. Which doesn't mean it isn't also a shithole, of course.

The point is, anyway, that you have to go for either London, or a small provincial city. Anything in between (Birmingham, Manchester lmao) are just pointless

Housing in the UK has detached from wages.
Houses are priced in other houses.

You aren’t missing anything, city living is fucking shit. London is a bugman city, the fact you can be on £50K but can’t afford to rent even a one bedroom flat anywhere near the centre is enough justification to not want to live there, can you imagine having to save up for 10-20 years to scrap together a deposit for a 2 bedroom flat on the outskirts where you have to push past drunk Romanians outside the Eastern European supermarket, a stabbing outside your zone 6 tube station and then brave a 40 minute tube journey with the other bugmen who stare at their phones the whole time and don’t make any eye contact.

That’s literally the best London has to offer, unless you’re in finance and take home £100k+ you can’t afford to live there.

>unless you’re in finance and take home £100k+ you can’t afford to live there
You don't live there in this scenario. You move into the Greater London "suburbs" and buy a £1.2m 3 bed terrace in Twickenham etc.
Realise you're a fucking fool for doing so, then decide to buy a 4 bed family home in a rural town so you can spend 3 weekends a year pretending to be human, while decimating that towns local economy.
