I'm a desktop tech. I worked for a local government for several years for 40k and it was awesome. Then like an idiot I left for a tech company chasing a bigger paycheck, now I make 60k but I want to kill myself every day. Learned coding but I don't think I want to get a development job because right now I love it and I don't want work to ruin the only hobby I care about.

Cover letters are easily the best way to increase engagement with potential jobs, that is if you are still early in a career field.
