Is computer engineering decent? I'll be graduating with that degree in a few months.
Also how important is it to learn stuff in school vs learning on the job. Been applying for stuff lately and the job descriptions sound pretty intimidating.

>> No.50402

None, if you have the talent and drive to apply yourself. But if you must have a college degree, psychology or whatever's the easiest/fastest thing to get. If you know your stuff, employers don't care what you have.

>> No.50411

>>50361

I got a computer science degree and after a few months break (re: existential crisis) I managed to get a job in about 2 months. Just sign up on LinkedIn and other classified sites and people will start coming to you pretty regularly. The demand for positions like software or computer engineering are still pretty high.

Don't apply for something you're not qualified for (ie they ask for certification and you don't have it) but if a job description asks for a year or two of experience, that's fine, apply anyway. It helps if you've done internships with other firms, but are by no means a dealbreaker.

If a company wants you but expects you to know their esoteric bullshit corporate policy/culture without ever having worked for them before, you don't want to work with them.

And really, that's all the employer wants to see. There are some people out there who have programmed since leaving the womb and they've got way more experience, but employers want that piece of mind to know that the person they're hiring isn't some hobo off the street.

Depends what your goals are. Like, private equity firms basically only recruit at Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, and maybe a few other schools, but that applies to ~3,000 in the United States. If you wanted to work at McKinsey or something, then you're fine with any top-10 school. There are legit reasons to go to a local school if you're trying to stay within a specific region of the country, the degree isn't too expensive, etc..

Like, why do you want to get an MBA?

History grad student here. The more you know about economics, the better. If you study modern history, some professor is eventually going to make you read volume 1 of Capital, so more economics knowledge will help a shit-ton.

Chemistry. Do you fucking know how much meth is worth in Australia right?!

Value is a subjective term and you need to be more specific.

If we are talking aliens invaded and we could only take 1000 people off the planet to form a new civilization. Anyone with a finance degree would be last, but a finance type degree is pretty much the most worthwhile degree if you like working hard and making money.
