She was cute when we started dating but the more she unfolded the mroe I realized she was a little od, recently told me she's slept with 10 people, I've slept with 4. Also told me her Best friend is hitting on her and she confessed they kissed before we started dating (she called me during or talking stage and said she was confused because she liked someone else aka me and blah blah blah ) Nigga sent her flowers to her mom's house , she lives like 150 m away right across the street came back criying and confessed her friend was too persistent even after telling him she's dating me.

Studied graphic design and art, but I built up my web design skill set outside of school and took part time jobs on the side so I'd have a decent portfolio and job refs out of college.

My first full time cooperate gig was a digital specialist, but it was hybrid. So, I had to commute to the office 3 days a week. Then the pandemic hit and I got to work remotely for two years. Eventually this year they made workers that lived close to a main headquarters return to the hybrid work model, but I didn't bother following orders as no one was tracking it. I used my WFH time to find a true remote job and landed a 6 figure Senior UX Designer & consultant position this same year. There's a lot of UX Designer positions I saw in my job searching that had options to work remotely, but they're competitive and tough to get without the right type of job refs and portfolio. General consultant jobs are also mostly remote as well.

I'm more UX/UI designer than consultant, but it's all part of the same package. The consulting part comes mostly from me giving design advice for my company's workflow software. But yeah, consulting is a very wide field that covers a lot of industries, so you have to figure out what job field you feel you can give solid advice to. You'll be mostly interacting with individuals or companies looking to improve a certain sector of their core business. Digital design is one of them, but you got to whittle it down to something you're at least partly passionate about in a way that you could explain it outside of work without any issues.

A lot of these companies want you to know how to use wireframing/prototyping tools like Figma, Sketch, Invision, and/or Adobe XD (Though XD might be on the way out now that Adobe just bought Figma), so just having those applications on your resume helps a ton. Knowing how to create wireframes and working prototypes is a big part of the job. I didn't have a lot of experience on any of them, so it made finding a UX/UI job harder. I suspect if you're doing your masters that's all part of the learning process now. Having examples, especially mobile and web app wireframe/prototype designs on your portfolio site will also help. Like I mentioned before, the UI/UX Design positions are tough to get and there’s a lot of competition, even more so if they’re remote since you’re competing against the entire country or other countries most likely, especially the senior positions which pay the most. It might take a while and a few companies you’re not too keen on working at, but just rack up the exp and portfolio fodder until you got enough that you can go into these interviews with confidents, so that you sound like you know what you’re talking about. Just don’t get discouraged if you don’t get the job you want at first. Even when you’re done with final round interviews, just keep on applying for other positions while you wait to hear the results. In the end of the day, it’s all a numbers game when applying for work, and so apply for as many positions that are listed wfh and sound like something you can actually do as you can until someone bites.

Also, a lot of these companies expect you to have good communication and presentation skills to explain through your design process to stakeholders/clients. Those soft skills are what these companies pay you the big bucks for. Usually in the final rounds of UX/UI designer job interviews, they’re going to want you either to explain the entire design process of a past project you did or they will give you a design assignment and expect you to give a case study in front of the hiring manger and a few others you will be working with. It's still something even I have a tough time with, but I'm hoping to get better with enough experience.

If you do these kinds of jobs enough, I think getting out and just becoming a freelance consultant on your own is entirely possible, because you’ll have the design process down to a science by then. I’m looking to move out on my own once I acquire enough assets to enable my financial freedom. It probably won’t be in UI/UX design since I got some other skills, I’m more passionate about developing, but, if need be, I’ll be able to do it.

This is not work from home but it is work related.
I'm a fresh civil engineering graduate. I graduated from university a couple of months ago with a HIgh Distinction (GPA >3.60/4.00). I was not able to do an internship during uni because of covid when everything was shut down. As a result, no company is willing to hire me because I lack the necessary experience. "Alright then", I said, "I'll just apply to internships". They're only taking students, and not fresh graduates. To those who are taking in anyone, the pay is horrible, and some don't even pay.
I need experience to start my career, but I don't know what to do. The Air Force in my country has a two-year contract where I essentially work as a civil engineer, learning very important civil engineering skills. I would also become an officer. I was thinking of doing this for two years (and earning a good amount of cash at the same time, benefits, etc.).
I'd like some opinions on this matter. Thanks, anons.

Thank you. Yes, I'm realizing those jobs are highly sought after but luckily I seem to be progressing with my portfolio and recently got a student working job at a quite prestigious institute, so I guess I'm getting it done!
Did you guys ever have a mentor who was a senior designer who taught you shit that no one talked about? I really wish I had someone like that to mentor me but it seems most jobs are you lecturing other people on the do's and don'ts, especially people who don't work in your department.

>Major imposter syndrome. Worked here over a year and a half, still don't really understand all the systems, don't know shit about AWS
>in my review my boss said I'm doing fine with the projects I've been doing

Not sure what to think. I've gotta go to some office social event and conference in a month and meet coworkers for the first time, major anxiety. May just fake covid but that'll make me feel like a bitch

May just quit, though I know I'll regret it.

It’s similar but the project manager is distinct from the QS in the UK and tends to get more of the blame when things go wrong.

Honestly this sounds like slave mentality. You should be happy that you're getting paid to sit at home, do a few hours of work, all at a job you don't fully 100% understand. If your boss says you're doing fine then there's nothing to worry about.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking pride in one’s work as long as you don’t let it get to your head. The anon you quoted does sound a bit paranoid though.

Ah I see
Yeah here roles tend to get combined. Pay one salary instead of two and just give em a little more time in the schedule to do their tasks so that's probably why we don't have anything like that

I am an IT manager and I love mentoring the folks below me. At the end of the day, if you have even a modicum of trust in your manager (which you should, because he's supposed to be a leader), I'd express how you feel and get some real critical feed back. He may say there's no room for improvement, that you're doing great, or, ideally, he'll help provide feedback that helps you grow with confidence. If he doesn't do this, it's not entirely game over. I'd just say you may need to look for a new job where you can get more feedback and mentoring.

I'm a sysadmin turned IT manager. My scripting is okay, but definitely not programmer level. I've considered looking into blockchain tech, I heard the salaries and growth are amazing. Thanks for the recommendation.

Kek I'm working tech support and been WFH since March 2020. Management tried to get people back but a huge covid wave hit and they dropped it.
My coworkers always talk about shit I have no clue about. I just nod and pretend I understand. I can do all the tasks assigned to me though.

WFH is comfy AF. My boss doesn't give a fuck what I do during the day as long as I do my assigned tasks.

I am totally sane but just a little needy haha but sorry if that bugs you it's just cause I've WFH for 10 years now with home gym and don't go anywhere or talk to anyone besides my family and I get so nervous at normal things like talking to someone I don't know irl that I shake visibly but I'm not going to take anxiety meds I just have to practice breathing anyway haha what do you say to my offer?

Gotta admit it was pretty based but keeping up appearances is not that hard if its wfh. I turn my camera on once a week and do the normie bs.

I have several WFH options from the federal government.
The VA wants to pay me $70k a year to answer phones to explain benefits to vets and is fully remote. The other option that pays 65k-90k is verifying immigration status of employees (I-9 form) for USCIS and is also remote. Another position is processing FOIA cases for the NSF but they want me to come in 1 day a week, but pays $75-110k.

All of these are a fuckton better than working in retail manager hell. But which to choose?
