Unless you are a stenographer or a time traveling woman from the 1960s, there's no financial value in learning to speedtype.
That said, just as a general practical skill I do think it's valuable to learn to type without looking at the keyboard, which does take some time and practice.

Logged right in. They looked mad, and still said next time type slower and look at the words I type. I laughed at how retarded they are. If you can listen + type at a fast rate of speed, you can make decent money.

I mostly worked from home, got paid $1.20 usd per 100 words. It could average out to a good $30-35 usd an hour - plus being self-employed you can claim a bunch of shit on your taxes.a

The trouble starts when you have to start looking up medical spellings / names etc. Really slows you down.

How do I find a gig like that? Honestly, this reads like one of those “I make $7000 a week working on my laptop from home” bot posts. Also I’m reminded that I missed out on those sweet $30/hr “COVID contact tracing” wfh jobs that just involved chilling out in your underwear and making a few phone calls.

My first gig I got from keeping an eye on job sites for transcriptionist jobs, and found one doing court transcription.

For me, 140 wpm, all my autocorrect set up optimally, good audio, i could max out at a rate of about 35 usd an hour. And I would be up there with the fastest audio transcribers in the world, for sure.

What was also cool was they'd let us take on extra jobs and do them on nights/weekends So I could do as much work as I wanted really. I was working for 2 companies at the same time for a while there - one during the day one at night.

There are downsides: Sometimes you're waiting around with no typing to do or jobs get cancelled or whatever. Sometimes sound is bad, sometimes there's a bunch of arabic names. And if you want to type running courts on a same day turnaround, you gotta be there at exactly X time in the morning.
