i don't understand why more people aren't buying gold/silver. the old mantra is BUY LOW, SELL HIGH. we get it, and we know it's difficult because you can't time the market.

but everybody and their mother knows and talks about how "the dollar is strong" everyone is exiting real estate because dollar strong. exiting commodity because dollar strong. exiting other currencies and exiting crypto because dollar strong. exiting all speculative assets because dollar strong.

okay we all know that dollar is strong, so isn't saying "strong" the same as saying that it's "high"? what good is high purchasing power of our strong dollars, if you're not going to do anything with them? why aren't more people spending what is strong (and ultimately worthless) in order to buy cheap worth-while things? why are we the only ones doing this?

Lots of reasons. The only somewhat logical ones I can think of are expectations of the dollar getting even stronger and the hope of being able to buy real assets later for even fewer dollars.
There's also people's inability to distinguish price from value. People tend to think expensive things must be valuable and cheap things must have less value.
Probably the biggest reason is a lack of general education about the nature of money, currency, finance and investing.

>why are we the only ones doing this?
We're definitely not the only ones, I think the reality is that the vast majority of people don't really think about things or are honest with themselves about what they really want, and just do what they think they're supposed to be doing according to some nebulous societal standards. Go to school, go to college, get a job, meet a girl, get married, buy a house. The societal standard of what people should do with their money is usually put it into a 401k and a mutual fund, buy an expensive house in a suburb and "build equity". Unfortunately the societal standard is also, go into debt for college, go into debt to buy a car, go into debt to fund a wedding, go into debt to buy a house. This locks you into the rat race (need a job to pay off debt) and a certain mentality of thinking, both that it's okay to buy things you can't afford on credit, and not only that but that you SHOULD be buying ludicrously expensive things with ludicrously high loan amounts, because everybody else is doing it and oh wow look at your friends' big houses and expensive cars! If you don't do this you are not living up to society's standards and will be left behind!
This is obviously very good for a very small part of society that is giving out those loans, and horrible for everybody else. It also leads to people thinking of money as an abstract concept, something that you can create more of out of thin air via debt. It places a lot of value on numbers and next to no value on real, physical assets - well, except for houses, but real estate is another giant ponzi scheme in this country, at least it has been for the past 25 years or so. Society wants you to put your money into a 401k because this benefits the elites. You give them your money to play with and make even more money off of. They can't make money off of your physical PMs. They can't make money off land you bought with cash. That's why nobody does it, because THEY don't want people to.

I'm sure it does given that ordinary Prussian 20 Marks usually retail for 10% over spot in the US.
Even my holed Hamburg Drei Mark cost me 50% over spot.
If you're really ambitious, you could probably start an online business selling this sort of stuff to US anons while undercutting most US dealers, much like oldsilver.ru before it was killed off by sanctions.

Asset managers are selling gold to get out of debt, as the interest rates keep going up gold will go down. Even if a company/fund is debt free they can sell the gold and invest the money to buy cheap stocks/assets.

The price to produce an oz of gold is about 800 dollars so there is still a lot of value that gold can fall. Especially as more artisan (smal scale) gold mines are opening in Africa.

A few anons do it as a lucrative side-hustle, one buys batches of "scrap" jewelry from a refinery for close to melt then resells on Etsy or eBay. I sell pieces occasionally but mostly hoard the nice jewelry. You can find good deals at estate sales or in batches of jewelry in good shape that are sold as scrap by weight on eBay, old southwestern turquoise jewelry, nice vintage Mexican baubles and pieces from in-vogue designers can fetch worthy premiums. The last piece I sold was a 37g sterling cuff bracelet I got for $2.66 and flipped for $85, before that a 28g Tiffany bangle bracelet for $250. Nothing wrong with selling PMs when the proceeds pay for far more PMs.

Any asset that does not depend for its value on a market being pumped by credit or government subsidy is a hedge against inflation. But remember that the corrupt, manipulated global economy has significant momentum and resources. Even though it is on its death bed, it still has enough life left to kick you in the face good and hard a couple times before it goes. But go it will. There is no disputing this from reason. >Bidenomics makes their job borderline unprofitable (can't waste gass looking for anon's unit)

Roight.

Just spoken to Chards asking him when silver Britannias will be back in stock. He told me that the Royal Mint has gone completely silent on the matter. He also mentioned that around mid October time is when the Royal Mint starts rolling out their next year coin. With the queen's death I speculate that the Royal Mint has to get royal permission whether to continue minting 2022 coins up to the turn of the new year. We won't know what's going to happen for at least a month, so don't hold out for 1oz silver Britannias anytime soon. Chards also mentioned that the minting of new coins goes from gold to silver, so if King Charles is to be minted from now on, the gold Britannias will come out before the silver Britannias.

The refineries? The eBay sellers offloading bulk batches? In both cases it's probably because it's outside the scope of the business and beyond the expertise of the seller. It takes much more time, patience, knowledge and organization to clean up and effectively market individual items and get them delivered versus melting it all down into ingots or dumping a bulk batch online.

You need to be careful and not just take the seller's word that the job lots are sterling, you need to study pics and make sure the items are properly hallmarked if you don't recognize the items from prior experience. It takes time and there is a big difference between an asking price and actually realized sales but there is plenty of profit to be made reselling jewelry purchased cheap, do some research on sold items and the prices different pieces and brands fetch before jumping in head-first. Regarding that particular anon, he's a single-minded midwit bore who can't figure out how to make money off PMs and seethes at superior anons who do, pay no mind to his petty ignorant bitching.

I don’t believe you can buy 30 oz of silver for $115. It’s ridiculous to even suggest it. You wouldn’t even have to sell it as jewelry. You could refine it and make an easy living. If this was accurate, Competition would drive up the price to something that is barely profitable. That’s the way the world works. Refining or reselling sterling isn’t some great kept secret. Everyone knows it and if was profitable, there would be tons of competition.

>> No.51550370

And now let’s assume you could really buy a kilo lot of sterling jewelry for $115. Even at this ridiculously low cost, add in all the shipping for dozens of pieces, taxes, Etsy/eBay fees, and all your time. You’ll probably lose money even if you could buy a kilo of sterling jewelry that cheap and get pieces that people would actually want to buy.

These 925 sterling silver rings sell on depop and Etsy for £30-60. I could easily see the plain bands and signet rings selling for those prices a piece. You clean them up a little, take properly modelled photos and market them as vintage pieces and people will buy them.

Leverage. No matter who you are or how rich you think you are, no one survives 80% losses. An ungodly amount of purchasing power is pent up in toxic paper assets that only hold their value if interest payments can be made and the capital rolled over when it matures. There is no chance in hell these assets can translate into real-world claims on assets and when those losses are actualized everyone will be materially poorer.
PM holders will miss the losses and be able to recapitalize whatever system comes to replace it.

Gold rounds? I think coins will always out shine them. Or did you mean bullion coins vs old gold coins? That I'm not as sure, I think that the classics (pre 33, old Spanish gold, rare/ realllly old gold in general) will continue to stay pricey and hold premiums into the future but I'm not sure what something like a sovy or 20 francs will do in the future compared to a normal quarter ounce. It's still gold so I imagine they'll still be around as affordable ways to get them. I dunno
As for silver rounds vs coins, unless the rounds are really rare or special like the ones with boobs or saay, 4chan meme rounds, I think that government coins would likely carry they're premium 40 years from now compared to private silver rounds. But even then, I don't even know how much of the premium they'd carry and if it'd make a big difference in the grand scheme of things if we're talking decades into the future. Rounds from the 80s carry a premium so maybe rounds from 2022 will carry one in 30 years.
I guess my preference would be coins because I like them more.
Sorta rambling so I hope this was helpful.

I love the pre-33 and world gold coins, waiting on 3 Napoleon 5 francs as we speak. But I also have a Krugerrand and 1 ounce bars. Premiums are about the same but the Francs and Saint Gaudens just ooze so much more history and desirability, especially as time keeps marching on.
Since they're the same cost though, I figured there had to be a 'gotcha'. I'm aware of the re-strikes which I view as modern bullion lower than Krugs.

Most from the UK has hard to create background patterns these days, so you're not limited to the Britannia alone for Royal Mint stuff.
The ping sound is weak on pure gold so such features are convenient for a quick test, for stuff like krugs, kronen, pesos etc. you'd need a real one to compare the sound if we're hit with an EMP killing all electronics ... not aware of tungsten copies that would sound anywhere like the real thing.
I'd just avoid "silent" .999 without security-features like wieners.

in regards to the Seymour Panther bullion (they've released the proof already), the Royal Mint has permission to strike it, so I guess they must be having issues with tooling.

No gold coin is easily faked because the only material that matches gold's high density is tungsten and you can"t stamp a design into tungsten because it is too fucking hard. It is also dark grey, extremely stiff, and has a different electromagnetic signature than gold.

If somebody knows of an actual passable fake gold coin, I would like to see it. And I don't mean Chinese brass or plated steel because they will not pass even the simplest of tests.

I also don't mean fake in the numismatic sense. I mean a coin being sold as gold that is not in fact gold.

>Premiums are about the same but the Francs and Saint Gaudens just ooze so much more history and desirability, especially as time keeps marching on.
>I figured there had to be a 'gotcha'.
Mainly the closest things to a gotcha is that
A) the older coins are faked more and are easier to fake
B) they don't have precise weight and purity info on them (with the exception of a lot of old Latin American circulation coinage, which usually does)
C) they're never 999 fine gold
D) more people care about AGEs, Buffalos. But those boomers usually care a lot about pre 33 too so there's not much of a catch with pre 33 other than risk of fakes.
I do agree that they have more history and usually the designs have more sovl as well. Most of my stack, even though it is small, is older gold. I just like it way more than bullion.
Although I would like to get some more bullion so I won't be as attached to it of I have to sell. I could never part with my injun here but a regular old quarter ounce piece would be easier to sell if need be. Not that I plan on selling but you never know. Shit happens.
