This interest rate hysteria reminds of the lockdown hysteria. Everyone kept pushing the bar higher and higher. First it was 2 weeks to flatten the curve, then masks, then lockdowns, then more lockdowns, then stricter lockdowns and so on. It's the same thing with the interest rate hikes. Powell said in June that 75bps was a big hike and that he didn't expect it would be common. But since then everyone has become so obsessed with raising the federal funds rate that 75bps is now the new normal and people are predicting a 5%+ terminal rate.

Everything has become peak hysteria, but I think it could get higher

People forget that Powell said it would be appropriate to slow the pace of hiking when the economy started to slow and that we were at neutral at 2.25%. Those were probably the Fed's real intentions and the Jackson Hole speech was just an act to contain the stock market rally. The question is whether the Fed themselves are now caught up in the hysteria or if they will continue with their plan.

Are you joking or being serious? I have been working for 15 years and have legitimately never heard of companies paying wages on Wednesdays.

I could understand a company doing so, just never heard of it.
