It's IMO a cross between BTC and ETH.
It's an open-source and decentralized payment system.
There's limited smart contract capabilities (until federated sidechains), you can issue assets such as stablecoins and tokens (soon nfts too) on the ledger and you can use it for payments. It has a built in DEX, gateways, pathfinding, soon an AMM. Use in other DeFi applications to earn yield or as collateral. Its basically a better version of the lightning network as well except without prefunding.
Unironically xrp will be a gas token for an EVM based chain. You can pay in any assets but it will be converted on the back-end to xrp.

It costs 0.00001 XRP to make a transaction meaning 1 xrp lets you sign 100K transactions. If XRP would be $10k, fees would be around $0.10 cents.
Which can be even lowered, but that's up for voting.
