I think it's fair to use a CEX if you do deposits buy and withdraw in small amounts per time. For example if I wanted to trade Monero P2P with cash I still have to trust that the seller doesn't have a guy trailing me and breaking into my house and taking all the crypto or cash. That's also a huge trust factor. If I want to swap BTC to XMR or KDA I can just do so little by little at anonymized CEX's.
It sure would be nice to have a decent high quality BTC/XMR/KDA DEX that requires zero trust whatsoever and has high liquidity, but you'd still need to trust someone for a short while to acquire the first crypto unless you're a miner which isn't that feasible for everyone considering electricity costs and what not.
