Depending on the size of the collection it could take an appraiser a long time to inventory it all and give you an idea of what each thing is worth. There's no right answer on what to do with it, but if it were me, I'd keep the pieces that fit into my stacking strategy, and liquidate the rest to collector's who will appreciate them. I'd put work into finding the best auction house that will give me the best return to honor my parents. That includes shopping around for the best commission as well as the most exposure to potential big money collectors.

Is storage going to be an issue?
You sold your house and have money left over after buying another one, or are you planning on using the funds to buy something in the near future(1,2,5 years)? i.e. How soon will you need to liquidate it?
Why are you stacking? Are you old and trying to preserve your wealth, or are you young and can wait out the silver squeeze?

All extraneous factors aside, 300:1 is 100% fine imo. /pmg/ generally agrees that silver has much more room to boom than gold.

They make money selling eagles you moron. Of course they want to sell as many as possible. There are obviously supply and production issues. They are t holding back supply on purpose.
The U.S. government maintains it's power through the dollar. A billion dollars in revenue is nothing compared to what is on the line right now. The shorts want to suppress the price to make the investment look poor while the banks are actively inflating the money supply, but at the same time they need premiums to fill that gap. If there is no supply of ASEs then people bid them up, and generic silver follows suit.

Take your time going through it. Your grandfather had a reason for each purchase. Maybe historical interest or beauty or rarity or just a bargain at the time. Look at each one individually and see if it appeals to you in some way. Get a copy of World Coins so you can learn a little about each. Then keep the ones that have some appeal to you and carefully sell the rest. But use the proceeds in a mindful way, not for buying porn or cheeseburgers. In this way you will honor your ancestor. If the ASEs are limited and they are the standard that people want, that will absolutely pull up premiums on other silver products. This is common sense. If ASEs were being minted at full production of 50M ounces per year, then premiums wouldn't be $10+. And generic silver premiums would be much lower as well.
This is actually such common sense I can't even believe you made your post because it is so dumb.

To be fair enough, is this really a business thread? Do you people actually buy monster boxes and gold bars? Most of the time I just see silver coins in the images over here. And those specifically have the largest premium in the precious metals market, plus the tax. I am certain that you just like collecting and making money is an addition only. We are collectors, even if we buy bullion coins, we collect them from different countries. So why is this thread on this board? Well, because there is no better option. Numismatics does have an investment attribute to it so here it is. I think that maybe there could be one day a "Collecting Generals" board for this purpose. But it isn't really much of a problem for now. It's also funny how YouTube videos promoting mining company stocks are linked in every thread. Do you even trade stocks? Anyways, the reason I'm posting is because I kind of don't like this board because of how much crypto there is. Apparently that's the reason it was created in the first place. Still it cannot have a monopoly on the board. It is named Business and Finance at the end so everything is perfectly legal. So, I will be collecting numismatic and bullion coins alike. I appreciate you guys sharing your collections, now I've got some dinner to eat.

Bro. The premium is due to supply and demand. We’re not arguing that. We’re arguing the reason for the lack of supply. Did you forget what we were arguing? Anyway, your thesis makes no sense. Holding back supply does not indicate that “all is well”. There is literally no reason for the US mint to hold back supply unless they can’t help it due to sourcing and production issues. If you were right, they would be selling the new Morgans this year to get people to buy numismatics instead of eagles.

The "all is well" is signaled by the suppressed price. The way they prevent people from buying up physical DESPITE their attempts to make silver look like a bad investment is to prop up physical via the premium. How do you prop up the premium? You do so by restricting the supply of the #1 silver product. If dealers can't get ASEs then they get bid up on the physical market. All other silver premiums are propped up by this as well. If ASEs were being minted at full production the premiums for all products would be considerably lower.
There really isn't anything to argue here? Sorry, but I don't understand you at all.

Pure retarded female thinking. There is never a point where you will be 'ready' to have kids. There will always be another 'we need a bigger house' 'we need to be closer to my parents' 'we need another $10k in a college fund' 'we need yadda yadda yadda.' Even if it were possible to be perfectly 'ready,' that's not the situation you want your child to be brought up in. Many are the stories of overprotective parents who raised their kids in a padded room and prevented them from ever growing into a fully actualized human being. It's better to have kids when you're not ready, and you're never going to be ready anyway so best to just get to it.

I think all of the purchasing power pent up in stocks and bonds will be chasing after PMs like trying to move the Hoover Dam resevoir through a straw. I have no expertise in these subjects but I would imagine that for "high" quality fake gold bullion, you'd have to resort to chemical testing, whereas with gold in jewelry and other forms like watches it would be easier to learn to identify counterfeit traits in the build quality and other minutiae

Why don't you just start dabbing in what you're most interested in? Specialize in a class of numismatics (and their fakes) and start making whatever jewelry or cast objects seem most enjoyable, once you have your foot in the door and those realms figured out it'll be easier to build upon and expand your knowledge.

oh you're talking about how easy it is to resell? wow, that's quite a stretch from your original statement that silver is not silver. maybe be more specific next time.

yeah no shit it's easier to sell a maple than like a rando round or a chunk of galena. No one's questioning that, dope. In a stable society and among collectors, hobbyists, LCS's, etc, obviously there are certain coins that are easier to unload. Holy shit Ican't believe THAT was the elementary point you were laboring to make.

In a situation like south america however, where they are using gold to replace the fiat (Venezuela?) however, you are 100% wrong and that situation alone proves it.

The only way to fake gold's density is with tungsten and tungsten is about as unlike gold as it can be in every other way - color, conductivity, hardness, malleability, etc. Maybe you could hide a thin tungsten rod inside a large ingot of gold. But it would need to be a small bit of tungsten in a very large ingot or you would easily detect the electrical and mechanical differences. The sizes of gold bullion anyone here is likely to be working with is going to be hard to fake if you have a way to test density and picrel. Plus, it should be very easy to rig up a device to test deformation. The slightest bending of a gold bar will reveal any solid tungsten insert. Much harder to detect would be skillful numismatic fakes.

Dunno for plaid, but ACH has been absolutely the best way to go for me. You do it once, then subsequent purchases use that info if you wish.
It doesn't get much easier, it's the least expensive, and just about the fastest. Only Apmex still makes you wait 8 days for no particularly good reason except the word "Check" is in the acronym. I freakin' HATE Apmex, but they have some exclusives I can't turn down - pic related example.

That seems super expensive. Why are you paying that much for it? You should be able to get coins cheaper. Pic related, 1 Euro is a worth 1 dollar right now so there are no currency value differences.

It's just bars, they lack the security features of coins and also lack the charm/utility that coins provide when it comes as a unit of commerce.

Ew a britannia. Shit indeed. You didn't even wait until Charles to be on the front. Now I know I've posted about queen coins and all but the British portrait of her has to be one of the UGLIEST ones on a coin. Saint Helena Island and Canada do her much more justice. Or did heheh. Sad.

Nice commemorative gold dollars too. I hope to get a napoleon coin one day. I only have one with the other napoleon + a DVD copy of napoleon dynamite

Napoleon III? Not a bad coin at all. I really like the reverse on it. Lots of nice lil details. The premium on Napoleons are pretty wild now, pure funko pop territory unfortunately.

ironically, silver Nap's are crazy expensive--a lot of them more expensive than their gold counterpart

I don't give a fuck, the Excelsior class is bar none the greatest Federation ship design and perfectly captures the aesthetic of 80's American bulk and excess.

Oh, and picture related. It's like someone took the Cadillac design team from the early 80's, sent them to the future, and told them to design a space ship.

Yeah a Napoleon iii 5 francs. Here he is with my thickest coin (he's my thinnest so I thought it'd be a fun comparison)
>The premium on Napoleons are pretty wild now, pure funko pop territory unfortunately.
Indeed. I keep seeing Napoleon i 20 francs go for $400 minimum which isn't sooo bad but most the other ones I see have high ass premiums.
I've noticed that some small silver naps will go for as high and even higher than the big 5 francs coins with him. I was eyeballing one on MA-shops but it got bought so I'm waiting on another cheap one.

MA-Shops is straight dangerous... if you're not into numismatics you will be when you suddenly see you can have literal museum pieces shipped to your house.

do you live in the US? I'm curious about ordering international from MA-Shops. mostly concerns about buying an expensive gold coin from say, france or italy, and having it arrive safely in the US

I mean, look at this shit. 280 bucks right now. fucking roman coin with big badass Hadrian

I feel so lucky to have gotten an Italian Napoleon 5 Lire for $28 a while back seeing that coins in similar condition are now selling on Ebay for twice what I paid for mine.
I guess there's a certain mystique about Napoleon that drives up his coin prices in way that you only see with a few other historical figures.

keep that shit friend, don't sell it. Napoleon was actually a great man and all the lampooning he receives to this day comes from the still salty British (who he nearly had embargo'd into oblivion). France was actually THE fucking place to be from 1700 up until the revolution.

Thousands and thousands of his letters remain, so we have insight into his mind and him as a person. I highly recommend pic related. Talks about all of Europe during these years. Reads like a novel. Will turn anyone into a history buff--and instantly make you more knowledgeable than many a history professor
