Its not the passenger trains people are worried about anon (passenger rail being only a minor thing in the US), its the freight rail shutting down that is a concern. Huge amounts of freight move by rail in the US; I guarantee that you buy things that were on a train at some point. Hell, a good portion of gasoline your car likely uses comes from crude oil shipped by train to refineries.
