>>51377137
Bought them about two years ago.
Before 1989 pm bullion was illegal and a way to get around that was to stamp it with jewelry markings, and 925 was the highest for silver.
Given their condition I'm guessing they were made in the 80s
Some of them are marked with 925

Those are awesome, I recognized the F10 as a date code, looked it up and it means it was made in 1980:

www.silvercollection.it/DICTIONARYEUHALLMARKSWEDEN.HTML

I'm confused by the 999 stamp in conjunction with the 925 stamp, does it weigh more than 100g? Lovely vintage bullion either way fren, thanks for sharing!

General continental .800 can be found every day and is much more common than German .835, if you know how to search you can find deals where they don't understand the meaning of the hallmarks and don't reference them in the title but mention them in the listing description. Got pic related for $75.26 total several weeks ago, 2 nice chunky German .835 dishes worth about $350 melt.

I can't give you my hard-won personal roadmap, but if you locate superficially unlikely subcategories, like the silverplate sections under different main categories, then search "835" or whatever in titles AND descriptions then you may find some sleepers, beware of Rogers silverplate marked with 800 or 835 model/style numbers but if you understand hallmarks it won't be a problem. I don't like wasting time with properly listed lots because a dozen thirsty boomer scrappers will compete with you, so instead I've figured out ways to efficiently locate the "hidden gem" listings that midwit competition can't find, and you can do the same if you think creatively.

>silver is taxed (VAT) whereas at least certain forms of gold (coins only?) isn't
Depends on the country. For example, in Germany only the difference between what the vendor paid and what he is selling at is taxed. So if he buys a coin at €30 and sells it for €35, tax is only paid on that €5 difference, which would be €0.95 (19%). At least that's the case for coins and bars that are legal tender money in some country. So overall it's not actually as bad as you might expect.

I suspect the camera app and the multiple cameras on the phone cameras doing all the heavy lifting. Like the camera app is auto doing the HDR and such, and now with multiple cameras who knows what else it's doing to get the optimal shot. I kind of wonder if soon stand-alone cameras aren't going to be able to compete against the phone camera's pictures.

A stand-alone camera will always have better optics and much more space dedicated solely to hardware. If anything, we may see abominations of stand-alone cameras with more sensors, and eventually more lenses, working in parallel. All to collect as much data on the spot as possible for either post-processing immediately (in camera or directly to an app on a phone via bluetooth), or at a later point in time.
If phone cameras only the size a few cubic meters can compete with a chunky stand-alone (without the lens), then something has seriously gone wrong.

I'm not saying this to FUD, I'm diversified so I have shares in those and physical, but it's a worrying suspicion of mine. I'd figure it'd be no different than freezing bank accounts, although from what I understand that didn't last long because the senate was about to do a vote to put a stop to it just before he reversed it. So who knows if he'll have the power to confiscate in the future if he couldn't maintain that overreach.

I agree that stand-alone cameras will likely always have better hardware. Like I cannot foresee phone cameras ever competing against the superzoom cameras which are like telescopes. But phone cameras seem to have the ability to "cheat" in the sense that using photoshop or lightroom to improve pictures is "cheating". There's probably tons of algorithms going on to pick the optimal settings or subtly clean up pictures on the camera apps. I don't even mean that in a elaborate sense of AI algorithms either (though that might be coming more and more in the future), like HDR is sort of "cheating" in a sense as it's taking multiple pictures to making a single better picture. Multiple lenses on a phone camera is probably doing something like that as well (or will be). So the way I sort of see it, while stand-alone cameras are "working harder" with their hardware, phone cameras are sort of "working smarter" with mostly it's software. It seems to me that stand-alone cameras seems to be falling behind on the computing and software side of things.

IDK, I'm far from being an expert. Hope what I'm saying is making sense. I can foresee the day camera phone's apps using the same sort of AI algorithms that cleans up and upsizes resolution, and such for pictures, movies and TV show remastering, or deepfaking, or YOLO3 object recognition. Yeah all those are different things, but what I mean is for the software look at the picture, identify the objects, substitute/remove the flaws and clean up those objects, and then deliver a stunning picture that might be even better than it is in person. That would be a massive "cheat", but we're sort of inching towards that right now with automatic settings, HDR, noise reduction, software stabilization, and such. The regular phone camera users aren't going to care if it's a massive "cheat".

What I meant was that there's no reason a stand-alone camera couldn't do everything a phone camera could do, and more.
It occupies a larger footprint anyway, and hence has more room and weight to work with. A stand-alone camera can be just as much of a computer as any smartphone could be, and it is not constrained by the fact that it has to fit in a pocket, or a purse, like a phone would be. In addition to being able to do all the "smart" things a phone could do, it could also provide brute force solutions (pack more individual sensors, simultaneously sensing at different exposures, different apertures, wider EM spectrum, and so on. Stand-alone camera manufacturers simply need to step it up, or else go the way of Kodak.

image processing in cameras is very low priority. True professionals will shoot in raw mode and use PhotoShop and other software on PCs and Macs to fine-tune the image to their desire.
DSLRs allow for using a variety of swappable lenses that are tuned to particular focal lengths to deliver sharp images onto large sensor arrays. True purists eschew zoom lenses.
That's beyond my interest and patience and I don't foresee being without a proper camera for anything somewhat serious, but I have to say, phone-taken images are becoming truly impressive. Their biggest tells and failings are in low-light conditions.
Also, I can hook up my DSLR onto the telescope. OC attached: M57, Ring Nebula in Lyra - straight off the camera, only cropped and resaved as JPG.

Jumping in to share my thoughts on this.
Stand alone dedicated cameras have the single biggest advantage over smartphones which is bigger sensor size and bigger optics size. They take in more light, so you will get a better picture, it's simple physics.
What you need to take into consideration with smartphones is the ungodly amount of cash being pumped into R&D by mega corporations.
Like the one anon pointed out they have the other advantage of making use of several sensors. Pic related is made using the ultrawide and periscope zoom camera from one phone(same ultrawide that was used to take the OP picture)

>Stand-alone camera manufacturers simply need to step it up, or else go the way of Kodak
Yeah that's what I mean too, I don't expect stand-alone camera manufacturers to start integrating the CPUs of smartphones into their cameras. Their MO seems to have been that of always closed systems, and they love making things proprietary. It blows my mind that Doom was able to be ported into that 1998 camera. My first experience with digital cameras was in the early 2000's, my brother had a Fuji camera that was an interpolated 2 megapixel. Since then I bought a bunch of Canon point & shoots, 5mp, 10mp, 12mp. 15mp. I've used the CHDK (Canon Hack Dev Kit) which flashes a modified OS into it, allowing for a ton of extra features. But the software still remains rudimentary compared to what can be done with a smartphone camera. I could only play games like Othello or snake on CHDK, so I am in awe Doom is playable on a camera of the era of that Fuji camera, which are so much older than all my old Canon cameras. But I think this just empathizes the point that stand-alone camera companies are incredible behind with their closed proprietary mindset. The newest stand-alone camera I have is a Nikon P900 for it's superzoom, and the most open feature I see it having is being able to connect to it's smartphone app that allows me to see what the camera is seeing, and to use the app as a remote to take pics. It's disappointingly basic app, and further indication they're falling behind. Also last I checked, most cameras are removing the GPS from their cameras, newer models of my cameras with GPS don't have them anymore. I think they've already lost with their mindset, but I don't know if they've changed in the last bunch of years since I've looked around.

>True purists eschew zoom lenses
Yeah, I'm not the typical camera user, I like the superzoom ability as a tool, and I'm not into the art of photography and such that much to be buying tons of different lenses. In fact most of the time I'm using a camera as a tool to take pictures of new things I buy to document it should I ever need to look at it again in the future. Such as all the written stuff on the packaging that I'm going throw out. My interest lies in things I think most camera enthusiasts won't care about, like I remember there was a lens which from taking one picture you could refocus the picture any way you like afterwards because it somehow took a picture of all focus points at once. Extremely cool. Also for a time I really liked huge megapixels because I can play the "zoom and enhance" game without the enhance. I remember when shopping for a 5mp camera (when that was really new) a shopkeeper argued with me that I would never need so much megapixels, that I would have to print out a person sized picture before it would matter. LOL, I want moar! More the better! Gigapixel and beyond!

Anyways, that's a pretty cool astronomy pic. I've taken detailed pics and vids of the moon on my Nikon P900, but I've seen YouTube videos of people who've even got vids of Saturn and Jupiter with their P1000:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlEH8AESacU
I would love to have access to a night vision and heat vision cameras too. You've probably seen the USB microscope pics I've done of some coins too. I guess I just like the utility of all that which revolves around cameras.

If the "true price" of silver was indeed $26 as you baggies claim, you would be able to sell it for $26. But as it turns out, you can only get rid of your bags for $18 per ounce. Gold and silver shops are taking advantage of boomer fear. If the supply was truly so low as the silver shills claim then the coin shops would be desperate to refill their inventory from the alledged silver shortage currently happening that they would be paying over spot. But that's not the case is it you fucking scheming kikes

Oh yeah, I know that. Editing raw pictures in Photoshop is manually tweaking photos, but I think the further we go in the future that manual process will become more automated, meaning the camera app will be doing the photoshopping tweaks automatically in the background for the user just pushing the shutter button. Sort of like how cameras are automatically doing things like focus, exposure, HDR, and etc. right now. I remember when no camera had HDR, and now it's standard and automatic on camera apps. It's just the progression of things getting more and more automated...which is why I suspect the camera apps are doing most of the heavily lifting for stunning macro pics.

Yeah, that's incredible. But it makes me wonder why stand-alone camera companies aren't putting in smartphone CPUs and OS into their cameras, or have they started doing that? There should be even older smartphone CPUs parts lying around that's affordable they could use, but they don't seem to care. The closest I remember seeing to that is a smartphone company putting a gigantic lens on the back of their phone making the phone look like a point and shoot camera. It was a number of years ago, and I forget what phone that was. I think it was a samsung phone, perhaps a prototype that didn't make it market. It seems like the stand-alone camera companies are going the way of Garmin when smartphones started integrating GPS into their phones in the late '00. At the time Garmin didn't want to expand to smartphones, they had a GPS PDA at that time. I'm actually kind of surprised they're still alive today seeing how all smartphone companies ate their lunch.

Dropped trow and hung muh ass over a low lying limb and sprayed the dirt with the force of a thousand supernovas. His face was priceless as he rolled up his window to block the sound/smell. Yes. Silver is VAT free in France for example (but for bars, but stores/refiners can go around this by adding a face value to the bars so they are considered as "coins"), and that's true for a bunch of others countries. The thing is most yuroposters here are from bongistan, which is gigacucked, so of course you mostly hear them complain about their VAT. But this is far from the norm.

There's no VAT free anywhere in the EU, ever since they shutdown the estonian loophole. You're paying at least 20% VAT on the dealer's margin if you're buying coins from a dealer. Maybe you can get silver from private sales without VAT, paying in cash, and not reporting anything.
EU doesn't even give you special deals for buying wieners that have a euro face value. It's kind of a shit deal desu. Still better than brits though, I guess.

Why not both? They have somewhat different, but overlapping, fundamentals. Both have monetary and industrial uses. Gold is stronger in the former, silver in the later. People make a good case for silver being undervalued. On the other hand, there are signs that the international remonetization of gold may not be far off. I don't think you will go far wrong either way.

Double-check the actual coin, it's most likely the capsule that is scuffed, rather than the the coin.
I think it partially has to do with the quality of the capsules, them being not completely flat, so when they get stacked (in a dirty environment) they wear more easily.

>Are they worth it since the amounts of silver can vary greatly.
Depends on a lot of factors. How much money goes in? When you get an older coin, you usually put more money to get it because of age or rarity. There's also the question of popularity. Old Canadian dimes and old American dimes have a similar amount of silver weight, but American coins are way more popular and thus command a premium.
Ask yourself: are you collecting for metal content or are you collecting for numismatic (coin collector) value?

You'll get more silver per dollar buying generic rounds or bullion. The premiums for 90% coins are pretty high. That being said, the old 90% coins are pretty cool. Personally I have about 50% in government issued coins/bars (Britannias, Maple Leafs, ASE, etc), 30% in generic bars/rounds (Golden State Mint, Silvertowne, etc), and the remaining 20% is in old 90% silver (I'm a fan of walking liberty half dollars, but that's just my opinion). I suggest you get a little of each and see what you like, you really can't go wrong in the end.

I've noticed that there seems to be a gap in the market of type sets. Does anyone think that selling lens style type sets on eBay for just specific eras or types of coins (like US gold coins or only Barber coins) is a decent proposition? Am I crazy? If this is the best idea that I feel comfortable with, should I start this journey for saving money?
Feels much more straightforward than any other scheme, stonks, buttcoins, closed savings accounts out there.
If I have hundreds thousands I would do real estate. But $40K is not enough for houses.

Revel in their glory.

Having a nice stack of PMs makes me far more confident in making other trades/investments. It's sort of like taking the time to build a foundation for your home. Everything else that I build rests ontop of that safety net.

The most important aspect of PMs is conceptualizing a method of storing wealth. The uninitiated are accustomed to interest rates perpetually declining, stocks ALWAYS rising etc. This is not a sustainable system and at some point the bottom is going to drop out. And if it doesn't then all that means is the dollar's purchasing power will be erroded. Having a means to store profits and take them off the table will serve us all well as opposed to constantly having to risk our capital to acquire some meager yield.
The little trick we all need to be aware of is the nature of percentages. A stock can go up 1000%, or even 6,000,000%. But for any portfolio or whatever you own you can only sustain a loss of 100%. Even losing 50-80% and you are wiped out no matter how wealthy you are. Being hedged for a major collapse is the smartest thing anyone can do as so many things are comically wrong right now.

Thats because it is. Gold and Silver are money everything else is not. You hold it you own it no matter what happens you will always have money.

Correct you are, sir. Gold and Silver are money. That doesn't mean gold and silver provide the best gains in the short term. There are various casinos one can muck about in where you might get some numbers to add up. But most sober thinkers see the world economy on the edge of the abyss. And when the world plunges into the abyss, a casino is a bad place to have your wealth. So stacker frens look to history for guidance and see what has always kept its value through every conceivable catastrophe. Time will tell us if we are too early. I absolutely promise you it will never say we were wrong.

The #1 way to protect your stack is secrecy.
If you are getting regular PM shipments mail ordered to your door you may want to have a bug-out plan along with multiple levels of protection if shit does hit the fan. Even things like having a dummy safe with multiple hiding spots could be good ideas.
When the paper-millionaires find out that all of the stocks/real estate/bonds they bought that were worth pennies on the dollar in terms of actual assets, they are going to be feeling wronged and like maybe someone owes them something. People are going to be feeling mother fucking pissed and there will likely be loose-cannons to watch out for.
