26 years old. 8 months in a min wage bank call centre job.

Do I hold out for another 4-16 months in hopes of a promotion/transfers off the phones OR do I start looking for a different job now?

Start looking for a real job you fucking loser

Start looking now because even a promotion probably wouldn’t keep you happy at a place like that

>> No.51319275

literally me except i've yet to start my first ever job and it's most slikely going to be call centre min wage.

It’s not worth it. Working in food and data entry was less stressful.

Work as much as possible and bank as much sick time and PTO, kick back for the summer when you quit and get everything up front.

It’s not actually min wage, it’s just very low. $54k AUD gross.

All jobs are for suckers.

I’m worried if I jump ship I’ll end up in another low paying job. If I wait it out I can hopefully move to a accounting or credit analyst position. I have an accounting degree.

Get yourself on TryHackMe and complete every single path.

Land yourself a SOC Analyst or Junior Pentester role using your newfound knowledge in the interview.

Grind for a couple of years.

Make absolute fucking bank from year 3+.

It's not fucking hard anon, just requires a bit of willpower and consistency.

Bruh. I answer calls for a living. I’m not tech savvy.

Go as long as you can, then never look back. I waged for 18 months in a call center at the age of 39. You can do it.

At the bank I work at (Canada) they are pretty clear with your promotional roadmap. You need to speak up with your colleagues, higher up colleagues, and boss to find out what your timeline looks like. Career in banking will payoff but you need to speak up and ask what’s out there, it’s easier&cheaper for them to retain talent than higher from outside. If you’re not ‘fulfilled’ by the job then you need to find meaning and fulfilment when you’re home. Go outside, exercise, read more. Good luck anon

Hey bro, I know nothing about Australia but from my understanding, banks are a pretty secure place to work.
If you’re looking to stay in it, you should probably do the classic come in early and stay late. Make good relationships with your managers and peers.
That being said, if this is not your career field of choice, you should always be looking for different opportunities that you are interested in. Stay hungry bro, don’t let work kill your ambition and drives

In America, your accounting degree would let you get a job as an accountant right away. Look for open positions within your bank, tell your manager you’re applying, and apply.

It’s a bit frustrating because I’ve met people who moved off of calls within a year and others who are still on calls after 3 years. It seems to depend on what roles are vacancies so it’s kinda random. I can must another 6 months but if I have to wait another 2 years I might as well jump to another bank.
