I’m not a /pol/cel at all, but this absolutely reeks of psy-op to me. This term “quiet quitting” is being used to describe perfectly normal work behavior like leaving work when you’re supposed to.

Are they giving employers a justification to start firing? What the fuck is this all about?

>> No.51302571

My take on it: The news outlets are controlled by a handful of elites. They KNOW we are in a recession and it's going to get worse despite how the media or government wants to twist it. They know that they're going to need to lay people off to maximize profit, so they need to push this narrative to make people believe that working unpaid and doing things outside your job description are normal so they can squeeze the most out of them, while simultaneously not being the bad guy for laying people off because they were "quiet quitters" anyways.

You know what working hard does? It shows your boss that your schedule isn't busy enough and that he should give you more work to do. Then one day when you're tired and want to go back to your original workload and relax a bit, you'll get screamed at, told that you're being lazy, miss promotions and bonuses cause "anon is just not competitive and serious enough about his work", and just get treated like shit until you get back on the treadmill and work at your new and improved pace.

Mass boomer retirement combined with death toll from Covid/vax/lockdowns (pick ur personal favourite) and fentantyl AND the reshoring of offshored manufacturing and energy extraction has meant, for the first time in decades, that the balance of power is shifting back towards workers in the USA. It is further exacerbated by trends against internal migration (fuel costs, property speculation, unchecked urban crime). Workers now have bargaining power not seen since the 60s. This can also be seen in other ways, notably the increasing desperation to flood the nation with immigrants (this won't work, they're completely unskilled plebs from Africa and failed Central American states. Unskilled to the point of not even speaking fucking English, unlike earlier semi-skilled migrants), and the escalating panic over the collapse of military recruiting.

There is a probable mixture of genuine incomprehension and deliberate misrepresetation of this phenomenon amongst journalists and academics (and hence the 'elite').

Trying to make heads or tails of the obvious psyop is a bit tricky. My first thought is that they're trying to shift the blame for inflation to workers, but the biggest causes of inflation aren't wages going up but rather the Fed creating a big pile of money and loaning it to banks who do bank magic to multiply it into an ever bigger pile of money. It has undertones of "those lazy millennials who just don't want to work to get ahead", but it also tries to appeal to the whole hustle culture idea that if you're just punching in on time, doing your job, then punching out on time that you aren't doing your job. It also sounds like "come back to the office", but hidden behind a layer or two.

What is this propaganda designed to do besides shifting economic blame to workers who are just doing their job and nothing more? A lot of people are saying it's paving the way to justify mass layoffs. If there are mass layoffs, it's because corporations are either trying to apply pressure to a subset of the workforce demanding higher pay and benefits like work from home, or more likely (since they're already playing with a tech hiring freeze) they know that an economic downturn is likely so they'll do a few rounds of mass layoffs and claim that they were just firing "quiet quitters" so that they can keep those dividends flowing for a few more financial quarters while the wheels fall off.

I think they know that a big recession is coming. They're hoping to shift the blame to not have it pinned on greedy investors or bloated middle management. The shift towards united messaging by the corporate media is telling. They've designed quiet quitters to catch on because they're hoping that it will stick around in the public consciousness for long enough to get repeated in the media coverage surrounding mass layoffs so that when some 70 year old CEO who just collected a big bonus and charted record profits explains that he laid off half his work force that the term will sound organic.

"Quiet quitting" is the new and improved version of "lying flat" that they tried a year or so ago.

I dont really think its a psyop though because any reasonable worker can see that the juice isnt worth the squeeze anymore at this point, but who knows, maybe demoralizing all the workers and crashing the economy is the next step in the great reset. Who can say?

>> No.51316260

It does sound like a hardline bargaining tactic to hint at mass layoffs and lots of "performance reviews" in the near future. The real objective is to exercise more power and control over workers, or to maintain their current level of it. Trying to preserve office culture and all the little tools and tricks that they have tied to that probably goes hand in hand with it.

Getting quiet fired is actually kinda cool. No one expects anything from you and you can basically do whatever you want all day long and still get paid the same. They do it because they want you to quit but honestly it’s such a great gig that I’d rather make them fire me lol

The justification has always been there although it completely misses the fact that those employers never really cared because their profits were driven more by stock prices or the potential to be bought out over simply profitting off of a well made product/service.

Yes, but a lot of companies no longer recruit or train their people for higher positions from within anymore. This is the side effect, why would you go above and beyond when you keep seeing management positions getting filled by new higher. Instead people switch to job hopping to get their promotion.

Downsizing is coming. It's the counter to the labor market difficulty. There currently are more jobs than people, and people know that.

But what if... What if you could convince people the jobs are going away? Mass lay offs suddenly cause a bit of panic. People go to lock in what they can get. Labor shortage solved. The house always wins.

>This term “quiet quitting” is being used to describe perfectly normal work behavior like leaving work when you’re supposed to.

Uhh, no its not? It refers to people doing the bare minimum at their job, AKA lazy pieces of shit who will be replaced as soon as a company is able to replace them. Sometimes they get away with it because of bad management who doesn't pay attention to productivity at all (quiet quitting management!).

It's one thing to do quiet quitting at a job where everyone at the job is overworked. If you do that, you're balancing things out. But to be a quiet quitter at a job where your management does not overwork you, man, you are the scum of the earth. I hate lazy fuckers.
