CBDC will not even be a blockchain. It will just run on centralized government servers. All a CBDC is - is digital cash. You can have a "wallet" or "account" with cash without having to deposit money in a commercial bank. its like venmo but run by the government. Of course you'll still be KYCed by the gov.

If the US gov implements a CBDC, it will just be the final step in the nationalization of the commercial banking system, which is effective already under almost complete government control. A CBDC would just cut out the commercial bank as a middle man between your deposits and the fed.

That on its own is the benefit, at least the selling point of CBDCs to the public. You don't have to deal with shitty banks, you can pay anyone you want like cash without having to use something like venmo, and transferring shit to/from your bank. You won't have to cash checks to get paid. Its more convenient.

Of course the government's main purpose for pushing a CBDC would be for the surveillance and censorship capabilities, and the ability to directly tax with negative rates and more easily implement capital controls.
