Volume always decreases in any exponential coin against USD because the volume is based on Bitcoin and not USD.

Years in the past: cheaper btc therefore more volume in btc
Nowadays: More expensive btc therefore harder to move big amounts of btc.

If the trading pair was USD/BTC , you would see the increasing volume of people wasting their money into btc
