>20 year old college zoomer
Over the past 2 weeks I’ve applied to 3 starter/student credit cards (PNC(my bank), discover, Amex.) I’ve been declined from all of them. How the hell am I supposed to build credit if I can’t even get a starter card? Am I doing something wrong? I have had a job for years and I invest 80% of my income. I don’t have monthly payments as I commute to class.

Interest is haram, reconsider your intentions

Thats the problem they cant get a sense of your initial credit score, its most likely 0. Get a secured credit card where you have to fork up collateral.

I will need good credit at some point in my life. I don’t expect to obtain any interest.

Seems like cash secured is the way to go.

cc companies can smell your wreaking desperation. Maybe just apply for 1. Discover is gonna be the easiest to get. Since you have taken 3 hard pulls against your credit, you're not going to be able to have a shot until next year. Maybe it would better to go with a retail credit card as those have no barrier to entry. Be mindful of any service contracts you enter such as utility, phone and internet bills as service disruptions can have a negative impact on your score. Once you get your first credit card, keep your spending under 30% and pay each month in full and on time.

Thanks anon, do you think I can get a cash secured card with my local bank even with 3 hard pulls?

You can build credit by paying back your student loans

I don’t have any loans, I’m only a sophomore and I pay for college by working at BestBuy.

Does the bank you use for your checking account provide a credit card? If they have a history of work payments going in they might give a credit card based on that. This is how I got my first one with no credit history but a few years of salary going into the bank.

Just go to your local credit union and apply for a card there. Then a few months after that get a target redcard or something. That's what I did.
