Here is my take on the fundamental value of ICP. ICP aka the internet computer protocol is web3 infrastructure, not forked but a protocol build from scratch. People confuse the applications build on top of the protocol as the protocol itself, but that is not true. They are build on top of layer 1, so that makes them layer 2.

Because ICP is build on top of the Internet Protocol part of the communication protocols like TCP/IP etc, this makes ICP layer 0, hence why it's called Internet Computer Protocol. Am I correct?

If I am understanding this correctly, ICP is core-infrastructure without the bells and whistles.

Web2 is currently dominated by companies like Google, Amazon, Oracle, these are companies that have to build services on top of the web2 communication stack but they do not own the protocol.

ICP is the core infrastructure protocol of the internet, but without the company structure, without the employees, shares, equity, and in the future the protocol will be ruled by a decentralized autonomous organization. Am I correct?

I think what sets ICP apart from the rest is that it's not build on traditional web2, it's a completely new layer aka new protocol at it's core, for example, it doesn't use cloudfare DNS, and we had cloudfare outage on 21 June, that took many chains offline (avalanche, solana etc)

I think this protocol has massive potential, the addressable market for ICP is web2. I also think that blockchains can or should do a lot more than just simple balance transfers. I think tokenization through erc-20 is nothing special. Every chain, FTM, TRX, AVAX, is bridging, leveraging liquidity from the Ethereum market through an Ethereum compatible bridge. ICP is issuing their own token standard. Two possible scenarios it will either absorb erc-20 or it might even replace erc-20. The way I see it, ETH2 gas fees won't change after the merge and ICP can run ETH2 through direct integration. This might take a few years but hey, if we actually get there.
