The Roastie path into the profession is psych degree -> unemployment/grad school -> Entry level data analyst in megacorp.

The important guys who implement BI/Data warehousing/Analytics etc tend to be CS/physics/math/stats for a background. Never hired a code camp retard who didn't prove their metal with a physics or maths degree beforehand.

Sorry but only like probably 3% of the worlds population can do leetcode (and I'm not talking autistically just memorising the answer).

nah fizzbuzz is gay. my rule these days is, 2 interviews and 1 coding test taking 2 hrs max. if the test is outsourced or not totally unique to the company, hard pass. i've had ppl try and schedule multiple 3+ hr IRL interviews after multiple phone interviews, or try to get me to sign up for some site where a pajeet asks me to design a generic api. fuck that, not worth my time

ya bootcamps are a scam and they churn out frontend hopefuls who don't realize that anyone can learn html+css in a weekend, including such vaunted skills as flexbox and grid. honestly my big learning tool is a full stack complex web app of 200k LoC that i managed to about cut in half while improving the overall quality of the code, and managing the cloud infra/aux services like email/DNS/vpn/etc

also i looked up fizzbuzz, it's that thing where you hydrate an array [1, 100] and foreach echo fizz if i%3, buzz if i%5, or fizzbuzz if both, else i. something like that anyway, one is fizz and the other is buzz

There's a clear bubble in entry level shit, especially web dev. There's an eternal shortage of skilled senior developers though. The kind of engineers who can rewrite and do maintenance on the massive, creaking pile of shit code generated by the megabyte by absolute retard code campers.

For anyone thinking of going into the field, know that you probably won't have a job in a year unless you are very talented. It will take a lot to be protected during purges if you have less than five years experience.

holy fucking shit, this hits me in the feels. i'm currently trying to convince a retard company that hiring eastern europeans to crank out millions of lines of retard-tier OOP leetcode is a terrible idea, and have spend the last week diagnosing some phycho retard bug in some copy-paste shithole api that doesn't work. my solution is: just have 1 fucking api since both of them are basically the same. not exactly a challenge to support slight divergence, huge mess if you expect a revolving door of russians and jeets to remember to duplicate their work considering the massive pile of duplicated shit that is the codebase. despite the meme of "OOP saves you from writing duplicate code" no all you get is like a fragile un-debugabble namespace nested 5 levels deep

>If somewhere else, tell. Especially if you got it without leetcode grind.
I'll tell you that getting over my fear/hate of leetcode for a short burst was always the best decision.

You should leetcode or find something else, if you care about maximum TC. You don't have to leetcode as hard as people going to Google, Meta, Jane Street, Netflix and some other big names.

Do some research on what the next tier of tech looks like. I'll start you off with some names like salesforce, adobe, Linkedin, Cisco, maybe IBM.

These aren't the top tech companies in the world, but they're pretty damn big, global, and thus have large budgets to pay people. Look for places with an already finished product that is printing money.

>> No.51085747

that's a good path, i considered applying to vanguard, one of my old colleagues went to akamai and then M$ where i think he still is...

better idea is instead of doing leetcode practice without context, write a project of your own, that is composed of leetcode exercises (you always need to rotate a string or regex an array, for example,), something that puts the leetcode in an IRL CONTEXT

so it's not just a compsci dropout exercise, but something you can show off as a demonstrable achievement in interviews

It's a bubble for the bird brained who think that just because you can make pretty charts or pull data from a database (what databases are literally designed to do) that YOURE actually a Statistician or Data Scientist. It's pretty funny, it's just the evolution of the PowerPoint roastie.

It's pretty easy to shit on these kids by ACTUALLY knowing mathematics and statistics. Unironically, you won't be doing anything interesting other than being a glorified chart maker without an incredibly strong background in computational statistics and applied math.

In fact nowadays the hot field is optimization and Op. Res. focused (a.k.a. setting up and executing optimization problems and algebraic programming not just visualizing and looking at data). Businesses are pretty quickly realizing that, unless they're just hiring for analytics, you need an applied mathematician who can kind of just do it all.

Basically, if you get into the ACTUAL end-to-end model building, validation, simulation world, you're basically at no threat of layoff. Then again, I've never worked on a model or simulation that wasn't considered 'vital to operations'.

python -> leetcode -> interview and learn on the job

if you can't get interviews: get yourself a linux/osx terminal, learn how to build a small project in git. Maybe follow the Flask tutorial and go from there.
