L2s will always leech value off of the base layer and create a top heavy chain which is inherently insecure. They are also extremely centralized (MATIC has the absolute lowest Nakamoto coefficient of top 50 chains) and have extremely long withdrawal times (Optimism has a 2 week finality).

That said zk-snark rollups have some promise if they can figure out how to get them to handle smart contracts.
