in the past, price movements were driven by retail participation and not institutions. large one-directional movements require lots of people to believe the same thing (narrative). those days have just about ended because institutions have flooded the market with money and hardly need retail participation. narratives will only work on coins that did not receive institutional investment

Because crypto (and all of finance for that matter) is purely a scam that serves no purpose nor has any inherent value so the only thing that matters is what hip and feel-good story/narrative they will push so that suckers can buy a worthless asset
