If it dips to 28 then the profit or loss will depend on how much theta decay and IV crush have happened. So if it's expiring tomorrow then you have more leeway, if the dip happens the same day you sold you'll be at a loss because the deltas will add on to more than you just sold it for, every dollar it goes down.
You do get premium but you need the extrinsic value to erode so you can buy it back for cheaper.

Oh and while you can't "exercise" a short put and usually wait to be assigned, if the extrinsic value is gone you can execute a "covered stock" spread order to buy 100 shares and buy back the put. I rarely do this personally because market makers won't fill your order unless you add 20 dollars for no reason.
So in a scenario where VEI dipped hard and the extrinsic value is gone, let's say it dipped to 20. Your short put is 800 and you're buying 100 shares at 20. It adds up to 2800, just like getting assigned. But again, they won't fill your order without some icing on top. I only ever do that if I'm expecting a pump and want a full 100 deltas on the way up.

Left to right is profit gain due to the decrease in premium value related to the fewer number of days left on the contract.

Up to down is the decrease in profits due to how close/passed your strike price the underlying stock is.

Your profits are capped at the premium you sold the option for.

>sell puts
>can’t I just exercise it and sell the shares immediately
When you sell an option short, you don’t control when/if it’s exercised.
You would be assigned.
Unless assigned early, assignment happens over the weekend after Friday expiration.
You could then sell the shares on Monday at anytime, even pre market.
A word to the wise, now is not the time to be selling puts anon.
If anything sell OTM calls.

You should hit the line button under chart style, it's much clearer. But I pulled up that 13 dte on thinkorswim, it's going for 114 dollars, so 263 is incorrect. It's -14 delta, so as a seller every time MSFT dips a dollar you'll lose 14 dollars. The deltas will change with time, direction, and volatility though. The gamma is around .01 so I'll ignore that.
The 275 is going for 1.80 so that gives you an idea of what would happen if it dropped 5 dollars right after you sold it.
If you can get any theta decay and IV crush in your favor that helps erode the extrinsic, but at the same time gamma will work against you to make last minute moves before expiration add up quickly by ramping up the delta to -100 for itm puts. Then you'll feel the force of 100 dollars loss for every dollar drop working against you.

If you’re doing a 1:1 cash secured put, you might want to just buy shares and then sell an OTM put and an OTM call against them for 2x the premium (assuming you are fine with adding to the position if you are assigned on the short put)
>I have 100 shares of RL @ 99
>sold 85 P that expires Sep 16 for 1.90
>I’m fine with adding 100 shares to this position at 85
>sold a 100 C against my shares that expired worthless Friday
>Sep 16 100C’s are going for 3.00
>Sep 16 105C’s are going for 1.50
I’m going to sell another call against my shares Monday.
I like RL and by using margin to buy the shares (25% long requirement), I have a lot more capital available for other positions then if I sold one cash secured put that needed 1:1 coverage.
I basically get 2x the premium by selling both a put and a call.
If I get assigned on the call, cool keep all the premium and make a slight profit on the spread between strike and purchase price.
If I get assigned on the put, also cool I get to add to my position at a 15% discount and keep my premiums.
This is just an example anon. RL is well insulated from demand shortage because rich people still spend money on nice shit during economic downturns while TGT and other stores are seeing a drop in demand.

FAZE had a few rate of 692% two weeks ago when it popped above $20.
I’m still short/adding shorts on FAZE despite this but if you believe in the squeeze it’s a good target.
I couldn’t even get shares to short because there’s too much demand so had to do it by selling ITM calls then I was assigned early and shorted that way.

I sold two 15 C’s short without owning shares. It popped to 19 on Tuesday and I was assigned on my two contracts so I was then short 200 shares of FAZE at $15 a share. Closed Friday between $11-$13 that week, I forget.
Selling options is the same thing as writing options. I’m basically receiving cash (premium) in exchange for giving someone a contract to buy shares of FAZE at $15 a share

The current recession that we are all in could potentially turn into another Great Depression later this year and next year if the elites don't get their shit together. It can get so bad that not even the rich multimillionaires will be safe from the global economic fallout. There's also the looming famine from the fertilizer production plants and farms getting fucked up too.

You know when you buy an option how you pay money for the contract?
I was on the other side of that trade. So whatever premium some guy or market maker paid, I received as cash in exchange for being short the contract.
Right now, Im short two 23 C’s of FAZE that expire this Friday naked, meaning I don’t own shares in the underlying, FAZE.
I received 1.65 in premium for each contract, or $330 total
Now these contracts are trading for ~0.55 a piece as of Friday close
If I sold another contract Friday, I would have received $55 but my margin requirement would go up by ~$620.

Yeah don’t do this if you don’t know what you’re doing lol. Selling naked options involves a lot of risk and requires you to constantly monitor your positions and the underlying stock.
Especially when seeling naked calls on meme stocks kek
It is not “free money”
I am taking on a considerable amount of risk given the volatility of FAZE and massive short interest to sell these two naked calls short.
But, that’s also the reason I received 1.65 per contract.
With no risk, the premiums are dog shit.
With high risk, you get great premiums but there’s no such thing as a free lunch anon.
For me to lose money, FAZE would need to close above $23 + 1.65 or $24.65 this Friday. My potential losses are theoretically unlimited because there is no limit to how high a share price can climb.
The obvious counter to this fact is I’ve seen plenty of stocks go to zero but I’ve never seen a stock go to infinity

The infinity thing seems a little bold after bobos got BTFO on GME. The only time I'd ever consider naked calls is on SPY or something similarly broad. Even then I'd probably just do a 20 dollar wide call credit spread instead.
For memes buying a long-dated deep ITM put with little extrinsic value seems like a better directional play.

In theory yes. I haven’t added to any of my longs considerably since the S&P 500 has retracted from its all time peak.
I am keeping my longs but using the extra cash I have on weekly/monthly stuff. Sometimes short sometimes long, just depends on the week.
I trade tight 2.5 vertical spreads on NVDA every week. It is the 2nd most traded stock behind TSLA so there is plenty of liquidity. NVDA tends to bounce $5-$10 in a single day. All I do is say it’s going to move $2.5 in a certain direction in a week.
I do this the Friday before or Monday the week of expiration.
Generally pay anywhere from 1.0-1.25 a spread which will be worth 2.5 at expiration if it’s ITM.
Any given week I also have $500-$2k worth of naked shorts on random shit. FAZE happens to be a part of this at the moment.
Shorting is always taxed at short term cap gains rate but I have enough realized losses from my longs that it doesn’t matter. If you are in the green already tax wise I would make sure to consider that when you start trading short term things left and right.

>> No.51020027

>>51019917
Yes that’s why infinity is purely theoretical. As with GME, if a stock starts to get anywhere even remotely close brokers will remove the buy button kek
There are obvious practical upward limits lower than infinity.
>the combined wealth of every asset on Earth + all available debt
A random stock with high short interest isn’t going to go from a 1B mkt cap to a 1T market cap
Buying a put the most you can make is if the stock goes to zero. Selling a call your losses have no limit theoretically but in reality there is a limit.

>> No.51020062

For directional plays that is a good strategy.
But if you’re trying to make money by capturing abnormally high IV, a naked short on an option is your best bet.
When IV is over 100%, you won’t capture a lot of that with a long dated ITM put.
Also, theta decay is the most significant the closer to expiration.
Monday the week of expiration when I’m short shit that expires Friday my portfolio theta will be like 150.0. Then Thursday right before market close it will be like 1200.0

This is what shorting is anon.
With a margin account, brokers will let you sell things that you don’t own as long as you have an amount of capital/collateral (shares of stock or ITM options or something) on hand that’s is calculated with a formula and is different stock to stock depending on risk that the broker decides upon.
This is the formula IBKR uses (my broker) to calculate margin requirements for selling naked calls.

Because sometimes line don’t go up anon. Sometimes line goes down or sometimes line crabs and stays flat.
Sometimes volatility increases/decreases and every day, time passes. You cannot profit from these things by buying stock.
That’s where derivatives come into play.
You can make money if a stock moves, but doesn’t move a bunch over a certain time with iron condors.
You can profit from any change in a multitude of characteristics of a stock. It is complex and overwhelming.
Much easier to just go long on something and forget about if for 5 years because all of these things I’m talking about aren’t important over the long term.
But sometimes for some reason or another you have a good thesis for why one of the variables will change and can make money from it

Partly. They got screwed because they shorted more shares than the amount of shares that actually existed (short ~140% of float at their peak)
There was zero possible way for them to cover 1:1 because they were short 40% more shares than the amount that existed kek
They were incredibly greedy and exposed themselves to an ignorant amount of risk. Probably the last time in history any fund/individual shorts greater than 100% of the float.
Yes you can get burned but is also the reason why people like Michael Burry made out like a bandit in the ‘08 financial crisis and had a movie staring Christian Bale made after his short play.

how do I fix my lack of conviction in following up on hunches?
just went through my browsing history to see at what date I made some DD into BBBY, FAZE, REV, SIGA, ZIM etc - the list pretty much goes on to Nikola premerger, multiple potential 2x-10x
sometimes I looked at a stock the day before the real rally began, but decided that I was either already too late (after prerally of 30-40%) or that the market momentum wasnt favourable at that time or for some other arbitrary rationalization for not acting
I bought GME at $8, but sold early at $40, which I think left a mental scar that is now fucking with my profit taking
advice like "just open a small position when getting a hunch" seems deceptively easy, but makes you end up with potentially dozens of stocks at a time that you now need to stay updated on constantly, setting stop losses, exit prices, tracking news+socials - i.e. a chore
ideally I'd need a team of traders that I supply with leads who then manage my positions for me, or maybe use some trading bot that at least adjusts limit sells dynamically

the more niggas that hold the cheaper it will be, why you think the S&P500 so cheap? I'll tell you why. Americans and even foreigners are told to buy because it has had good returns. The fallacy is that it has had good returns because of this. Kind of a ponzi. Europe and Asia are not big stock market investors and prefer to invest in property or just spend money.

Soon when Europe, Asia and Africa start pumping their stock markets they will start having similar returns to the S&P500 or US stock market in general.

Effectively the only reason the US market is so large is because there are more US investors putting their money solely into the US.

When the China housing market starts to fail and they implement pensions, watch how the chinese market grows. In the next 10 years China will have astronomical growth due to the chinese people being forced to invest in chinese stocks via their companies pension fund. Perhaps even some global stocks for diversification.

This will be great so just hold the entire global market and you will benefit as china grows from 4% of the market cap to 20%.

quick rundown? how does direct registering shares make me more money?

when i tried to look into it, i saw that since my shares would go to computershare, they would need to be moved back before i can execute trades since computershare is not a broker. what the fuck is the point if i don't have liquidity for potential quick exits? what's the advantage here?

what you describe is value investing, there are thousands of insanely smart and focused people like Munger/Buffett who already do this kind of work of figuring out the "base price" of companies - no point in trying to outcompete them in finding the rare mispriced one
I think where my edge lies is in spotting upcoming trends, so pretty much mispriced "hypeness" of stocks - for which I use multiple disparate information sources spanning macro, geopolitics, policy trends, socials, upcoming events - if multiple of them point in the same direct I usually pull the trigger, its just that this approach is inherently capricious and always leaves you with doubt, unlike when relying on a concrete discounted cashflow model

>Soon when Europe, Asia and Africa start pumping their stock markets they will start having similar returns to the S&P500 or US stock market in general.
the reason Europe, Asia and Africa pump the US stock market and not their own is because their own legal regimes are shit and that is not going to change
what happens when you invest in Germany? Well first the government makes an announcement that there is too much stock speculation, so they pass a tax on *unrealized* stock profits (yes, believe me, they did that). Then the unions note that the company is profitable so its time to "negotiate". If you do extremely well you may get a kind offer to sell your company to the state. If they are not feeling generous they just pass a tax aimed specifically at your company.
And that is Europe, China is 10x as bad. You wanna bet on whether the chink that stole the AMD company seal and basically usurped their Chinese branch is ever going to prison?
Meanwhile in America you cant even do a little insider trading without the possibility of getting a call from the SEC

People dont invest outside of America because they know that when they get exit scammed, the government will just laugh and call them evil speculators

>>51021922
value investing was the simplest analogy to give, but I actually hold more growth companies

The US market is so large because it is the dominant empire and has the best economic system in the world at the moment.

Europe will never exceed the US, partly because its policies don't allow economic growth and partly because its role is being Americas lapdog. Its entire purpose is to consume American products and be a vassal continent (tax cattle) to the US. European stocks and the Euro are overvalued, and people will realize it very soon. Switzerland is an exception and has the only European stocks worth considering.

Asia could be better. Japan and South Korea are in a similar state as Europe, but it's slightly better, especially their currencies. China could easily surpass the US if they didn't live under a communist dictatorship. They only have a short window to get out as well, their demographic development will make them weak in the future. Chinese stocks are simply too risky because the CCP could do all kinds of shit at any point. The other Asian countries are insignificant.

Africa is filled with niggers.

IMO there is this weak 'bottom' narrative that is being pushed, with help from an opportunistic administration.
But the reality is that this whole rally has been dominated by short covering, with institutions closing their puts well in the money from the start of the year and this leading to a gamma squeeze.
But now with the market seeming very overbought they are all reloading again for another leg down, whilst the stupid money trails momentum.

Direct registration doesn't "make you more money". It just means shit is in your name and you actually hold what you think you do, whereas with a brokerage you just hold a contract for difference for a given quantity of shares. With a reputable broker it's 99.999% the same experience barring extreme extant circumstances - think of direct registration being burying gold in your backyard in a coffee can versus holding with a brokerage being having a futures contract with COMEX for a given quantity of gold; if the economy is still up and running and the world as you know it is still functioning, holding those futures contracts is just as good as holding physical gold. If nukes get dropped and the world as you know it is over, you'll wish you'd had that gold in the coffee can instead, assuming you don't die or blow your brains out at the circumstances of it being the end of the world.

And you can sell with CS, you don't have to transfer back to a brokerage. You can do market and limit sells, they just have a broker process it for them and then send you the money. I have an account linked but you can also get a physical check in the mail or pay a fee and collect the physical check at one of their offices around the world. The fact that every transfer I've done to direct register shares has my broker trying their ass off with a prepared statement to get me to not do it makes me think it's worth doing.

It's just blind pro-government statist propaganda at this point, and if you say anything that goes against that narrative then the shills will report bomb you until your posts get deleted and you get banned. All the statist shills use reddit spacing, go absolutely mental if you post a pepe or wojak edit, and give off a strong "how do you do, fellow children" vibe.

Faze currently has an ADR of 22% and IVR of 72 That puts a >35% weekly move as a distinctive possibility. Considering FAZE has demonstrated the ability to move to the upside by more than 35% in a week extra caution is needed as expiration approaches.

This is the kind of trade that gives me more anxiety than a trade should. I know you are watching it but please be careful.

yes, gold in a coffee can works in that situation. but what is the advantage to having direct registered shares when the world collapses? this is the flaw in the direct register. the only time it would be beneficial is during a time you probably wouldn't be able to do anything with them.
