Why are corpos such bastards.
Work for a company of 3 letters consisting of IBM... almost 5 years now.

Ask for a raise 2 years ago after local and global manager fought for a raise a whole year and me handling double the workload I got 20$ more a month... probably not even a 1% increase.

Be current year, hiring freeze in whole company. Work is slow people are getting the sack. Economy, company and everything else is bad really bad.

Get a offer from another company for 90% salary increse. Decide to accept offer tell bosses I am leaving I don't really wanna go but X company is offering me almost double my salary.
2 days contra offer with 91% salary increase.

This desu, got my biggest raise at my current after taking a couple days off to do an onsite interview at a FAANG company.

I didn't indicate in any way that I was interviewing anywhere, but the fact that I never took vacations ever and then took a couple days off out of the blue must have alarmed management.

To be honest seems like a must. The moment I see a role in a career path(plan to change field of work) I want in my current company I am applying.

Nice pic OP.

It's because you are either in consulting or are a dev monkey. Other stuff is out there you know.

Cloud Pak tech sales is 100% remote which is pretty comfy.

Look on the bright side. You just got a 91% raise which is great. Now you can plan your next steps. It's good to have some continuity at the same place.

I work from home and am also a homebody by nature, so the only difference between workdays and time off is that I'm don't have to pretend I'm working. If I really need time off, I have plenty to spare.

Don't take the counter. The bridge has been burned, move on and start new. Unfortunately job hopping is commonly the only way to keep market value.

It comes from on years of accumulated credibility. I've cut infrastructure costs, streamlined development and testing, automated business processes, automated people out of jobs, and reduced man hours for those who remain.

Many of this company's systems were built by people who no longer work here, aside from myself, and I'm the only person who understands many of them, never mind the ones I've built. So most of my work now is just answering questions about them and tweaking things here or there.

So basically, look for a dev role at an procedurally inefficient midsize business and proceed to quietly automate everything, including your own work. The code debt in the legacy tech industry is greater than the national debt, and that's an opportunity.
