Warosu is searchable, missing most of the last 2 years, but has older stuff and recent stuff.
Archived.moe enabled searching on /biz/ so we're mostly alright for now, but they are missing a lot of images and have mostly thumbnails for the last year if not more.

They've been temporarily offline before, but I get the feeling they gave up this time since there's no update on their page other than the crying gif for months now.
Maybe there will be a new archive called notwakarimasen that has all the same content hosted somewhere else one day.

A P2P archiving method would be cool and all, but you also need to exclude all the Captain Planet spam, and hosting certain types of propaganda is highly illegal in several countries, especially nazi and race war promotion.
There's also a fuckton of content to archive, and how do you prevent people from fucking with the content? A new post is up, only one node sees it in time before deletion, can it be trusted to not post fake information to trick other nodes into accepting that block and repeat the fake information?
How do you prevent people trying to fuck with consensus?
It's not sustainable, there's no profit motive, and it would go to shit unless it was a highly trusted centralized P2P network of approved nodes only which doesn't make it very resistant to censorship. One of the main incentives to own massive archives is likely that you can sell the content to someone else if they want to run an archive, if you give free access to your entire database that profit motive is gone.

If you want a great archive, get rich and host your own.

best you can do is store hashes of threads on a chain. content has to be hosted by someone. one could implement archive based on ipfs - just store archived json files on the ipfs and anyone who cares about a thread would then also host a copy. most archivers use a shitty postgresql db tho. not sure how to interact with ipfs from it. i don't think torrents are suitable for this.
