Every real share must be bought back at any price to close the remaining short positions because there are no locates left in the obligation warehouse. Institutions and mutual funds will have to be made whole with real shares.

If you have a gamestop position with a broker you have an entitlement to a given number of shares. If you hold gamestop direct registered, you own those shares outright registered to you directly conveying all the same rights as if you held them as paper shares in your hands.
