Any house seems like a dream some days desu.
I do want a similar wood/stone/glass style (and all natty finishings), smaller than that though for easy upkeep more like large cottage style, but still with a large open living area and comfy view.
Importantly, enough land to do a few things I want. 5-10 acres would be enough. I used to do ok out of raising seedlings and grafting fruit trees on the side, but for some reason decided moving to the city for a white collar job and more money would let me make it faster. Ironically I feel like there are less opportunities here now.

>decent size cabin
>a loft for sleeping
>a terrace or backyard with a barbecue, benches/chairs
>off-grid: well for water, solar + batteries for electricity, composting toilet
>heating by wood-burning stove which doubles as cooker
>shed for tinkering and wood/metalworking (like OP)
>lush garden with meandering paths and permaculture-style plantations
>chickens and maybe a goat
>pond or small lake nearby for fishing
>one room is a library with a fireplace and an in-wall, huge aquarium

The aquarium bit might reduce the comf factor so I am not sure I will retain that idea.

Basically I want to reduce my dependence on outside society, also I want to consume less media and online garbage. Walks in nature, fish, forage, read paper books in front of the fire.

This lifestyle is reserved for the 1% today, the rest of us has to become wagie drones who consumes product and get excited for next product. We own nothing, and we are supposed to be happy.

McMansions are not nice big houses, they are BAD big houses. Houses that are built as cheaply as possible yet with seemingly lavish exteriors and high floorspace stats, for one single purpose: To scam the buyer out of as much money as possible in comparison to the actual worth of the house.

Whether that house is in fact a mcmansion or not is a different question though.

A building just slightly bigger than human scale, that celebrates engineering achievement. Large concrete pillars and an atrium, and a rooftop garden.

I would also want exactly this, but with a large-ish brutalist block like >>50902384. I just like engineering too much to give up on it completely and return to peasant. I like the idea of a building looking like it's been left there by an alien civilisation, or when they're big enough that you have to wonder how it was achieved (which is what makes them especially cool in forests).

Would want a Casita now which is great if youre single and dont have more than 4 people over at once, but Id definitely want something bigger than 400 sq ft down the line even if it is from Boxabl. Im sure in 3-5 years time theyll have more options. Im also considering in investing in this company.
One thing I am concerned about are the flat roofs. Feel like that can fuck you up in a place that snows and rains a lot.
Id prefer a reasonable prefab home or a cabin over a giant house that sits empty.

Do-anything-I-want-tier would be a round stone or brick tower in mountain alpine near a lake, minimum 20km+ from any real civilization. Main level (kitchen w/ a small breakfast table), 2nd floor (library / office), 3rd floor (bedroom, bathroom w/ shower), and 4th floor/roof (solarium w/ bath). Two basements, basement1 would be a large dining table, fireplace and living room, basement2 would be storage. I think suitable land, construction, off-grid utilties, furnishing etc would be at least 10 million, and if I lived there I likely wouldn't be working at all any more so I would need to be at around 20-30million in order to make this happen and live off the remainder of my wealth.

More realistically I have been working on a few different draft home plans that would work well for me on any modest acerage. I will probably buy 1-5 acres within the next 2 years or so and start construction. 1500-2000sqft home, built with quality materials, designed for simplicity but not offensively modern (eg. gable roof and longhouse style simple structure, instead of 6000 mcmansion roof planes and angles going everywhere). DIY custom outdoor tile onsen, japanese garden inspired landscaping, space for a good garden and a good greenhouse.
