5% APR at $1000 is a long ways off still, assuming it's only based on fee revenue and not any subsidy from Chainlink Labs. It's definitely inevitable though. If a node gets slashed it doesn't mean you lose ALL of your LINK but you might lose a portion. We will have to see how staking looks in terms of delegating to DONs vs nodes, but you'll probably want to diversify. Keep in mind that it's not hard for nodes to have 99.999% reliability, the amount you will passively make from staking will far outweigh any potential slashing as long as you aren't staking with some jeetnode offering 50% APY. The same principles of defi from 2021 will apply in the future with LINK staking, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Nobody can say for sure until staking infrastructure is actually revealed, but contrary to what people spam on this board, link is arguably the least scammy project in the space, so there's a high probability that staking with a node with high reputation will be around as safe as dealing with a typical centralized entity in tradfi. That is to say there's still risk involved, but this is not going to be the wildwest rugpull scam ponzi shitshow that DeFi of the last few years was. Also staking 2.0 is going to have insurance for your link iirc.
