1. Start gathering metrics of your work. I'm not sure how it works for system engineering, but for software engineering we can see commit history, PR history, etc. Even if it's just a history of JIra tickets you've worked on, or whatever project management tool you use.
2. Develop some fucking social competence. You gotta play the game otherwise you'll be eaten alive by others. Start speaking up for yourself, network with others outside your team and build up a reputation. plant rumors about said colleague, take credit more often, etc etc.

Take a step back and consider his mind, then considering how you feel about this situation I'd guess you'd have a pretty good fucking insight. How long have you been working there? At least a year? Once you have enough time in for the CV, demand a pay raise and give them your fat notice. If it is as you say, they will most likely let you go but then the cunt will have to do his own work and if he fucks up that much, hes fucked. I had something similar combined with a cunt of a project manager that was literally the fucktoy of one of the main company directors. Every work conversation i had with her went poorly, i tried multiple tactics without much success. The best tactic i came up with was to stay quiet in meetings and just agree with whatever dumb engineering solution she would "ask" me my opinion on, even that was unsustainable. The other problem was that the other dev on the project was completely incompetant chain smoking moron who had previously been fired from being the development manager at a games dev company. Stupidly when i joined i tried to help moron man with the basics of doing his job, but it was a terrible mistake, for every ticket he would copy paste my code from a previous ticket and make it return dummy data. I wouldn't approve the PR and he would go off to the cunt PM who would then "ask" me to approve the PR. This kind of cycle carried on for 6 months until i got pulled it a meeting and fired over my "attitude". Story over.

First thing you need to do is realise something is actually happening to you. My first clue was that lots of upper management i'd never met suddenly knew my name in the kitchen. It was obvious cunt pm had been talking shit about me, in relation to her poorly managed project.

Second is understand that current situation is unsustainable. You either need to actively try tactics to fix it, metrics on your work, sending out progress reports etc. Or you need to leave. I should've moved to a different team within that company in hindsight. Instead i found a much better job that paid more money with a good team and all my issues went away practically overnight, where i have never experienced anything else like this.
