Companies like computershare and even Gamestop have multiple backups/locations with ledgers of who owns their stock incase of insolvency/building fire. In event of not being able to access it, you just have to wait till someone picks up the holdings on a new system. None of that solves the problem that has been created by DTCC. They still would not be able to touch any DRS shares.

I don't want to DRS because they're in a taxfree account and I don't want to go through the entire process of setting up another account in a broker that allows DRS, selling my shares, transfer the money to the new account, buy the shares and DRS them. I just do not understand such nonsense. I bought GME shares. In my eyes they are real shares. Whatever happens behind the scenes in T212 or any broker is not my problem. I have followed the rules and paid using cash and not margin. If I spent $100 for one share, the broker should have a share worth $100. If I press sell on the page, I expect the broker to sell the $100 share for the price I set it to be. The only way they can fuck clients over is if they accepted the money and did not buy the share. In which case, there should be frequent auditing and government regulations to make sure this does not happen.
