Any Anons familiar with typical ticket pricing timelines for a concert? When is the best time to buy relative to the show? I became familiar with the ticket market dynamics and how to perform arbitrage in college.
>Get student ticket package for the season and have tickets for all home games. These are general seating aka fungible
>Notice tickets are resold on facebook/ online
>Watch the average listing price; they are not static but fluctuate throughout the week
>A big name opponent team is playing on Saturday
>Tickets usually start being bought and sold about 2-3 weeks before
>As the game gets closer, ticket prices go up $100 -> $120 -> $150
>This lasts until shortly before kickoff at which point prices plummet as people try to get rid of unused tickets (you get dinged by the school if you have a ticket and don't go to the game
>A ticket going for $150 on Friday morning may only go for $60 an hour before kickoff
>The price crash time window is directly proportional to the opponent; big rivalry will only crash an hour before kickoff- a small no-name opponent may have prices crash as early as Tuesday. Small opponents also have cheaper tickets.
>Arbitrage is simple: Sell the ticket early in the week, then buy after the crash
>With above example, I may sell for $120 on Wednesday, and re-buy at $60 immediately before the game. Pocket $60
>Airline flights have this same dynamic as you can get last minute tickets for open seats for cheap- though these sorts of deals are harder to come by with overbookings

Does this sort of ticket pricing dynamic occur for musical concert tickets? I would assume so as the tickets scalpers get must be sold at some point before the show. Does anyone know what sort of timeline this phenomenon plays out over? Should you buy show tickets literally night of? Also curious as to how the type of ticket plays into this e.g front row vs general admissions vs nosebleeds.

>Obviously finance related as this is essentially a futures pricing exercise.
