Apparently that's because they're always taking the Earned Income Tax Credit. Trying to take it will instantly get you flagged. Lot of people try to scam the system because it's free real estate. 43% of all audits in 2018 were people getting the EITC.

Recently learned this fact unfortunately. Difficult to describe the pain Im going through. Physically it feels like hell is having an orgy in my stomach, every minute of the day. Life went from perfect to nightmare in an instant. Imagine having your best day ever and then all of a sudden getting in a life changing car accident. Not exaggerating that's how quick my life turned.

Paid $30k in fees to accountants/attorneys to (hopefully, fingers crossed) fix and I'm pretty broke at this point. $35 in bank account when i checked yesterday. Maxed out credit cards for lawyer, credit score tanking. I only make around $2k a month through gig work. All this happened as btc dumped to 17k, max pain in every sense of the word.

Wish I could go into more detail but I'm too paranoid at this point. I guess I have nothing to lose anymore but it's still terrifying even vaguely mentioning the situation to anybody. Will probably delete this post in an hour but will see.

I've always paid and filed my taxes on time too. I used $200 tax software but one way or another a specific form titled with a bunch of numbers and letters didn't get submitted so here I am. Sucks. I might be able to get through this but just feel helpless. My life is being funneled through a series of bureaucracies and middle men and I just have to pray everything comes out the other side. Human productivity sucked into a black hole. They made it clear that my soul are worthless to them but I still love myself and God.

We are audited every seven years. Each and every seven years.
The exact amount of time we are legally required to hold documents.
If you haven't been audited you aren't doing anything at all business wise.
