My problem with anything related to bonds is, it is one of the most direct levers the gov has to influence the stock market. And it is in their interest right now to fuck over as many investors as possible, as more losses = less gains = less inflation. Bonds seem like total garbage, but it's a sort of cash alternative. They've been total shit since the first wave of QE back in 2009 though, hence the question.
The point of diversifying is to have multiple factors so you can rebalance regularly and benefit from variances. When stocks are winning, you reallocate away. When they crash, you're re-entering with more. Do this rebalance every 6 or 12 months and you're likely to outperform. It's pretty much the opposite of the beta-slippage effect suffered by leverage ETFs.
This is for an IRA, not my main funds obviously. Not even my own IRA, for that matter. Withdrawal timeframe is around 5-10 years.

Permanent portfolio is a newer concept that allocates more into gold, cash, or short term treasuries instead of just stocks and longer term bonds.
I don't think there's a precise ratio proposed for the permanent portfolio, but I'd probably do something like 50% stocks, 10% gold, 10% silver, 5% crypto, 25% short term treasuries.
