I'm less than 15% DRS'd because I'm using a Canadian RRSP account that I can't afford to take the tax hit on by selling and re buying for the majority of my shares. I'm sure there are thousands of others in my position just in Canada.

I don't understand how all these "hints" can be interpreted as DRS being the killing blow, without actually making it a more available option.

You lose the contribution room from your TSFA, and of course the tax free status, and the RRSP forces you to pay taxes on it because they can't do a straight transfer, it's considered a taxable event when they convert it to a cash account.
