Apparently the answer is:

// Check from 2 to square root of n
for (int i = 2; i <= sqrt(n); i++)
if (n % i == 0)
return false;

https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/prime-numbers/

I don't understand why we are only checking up to the square root of n, but whatever.

Looks like the solution for interview to memorize is "if even and not 2, return false. Check all odds up to the number (or the square root of the number, which I dont understand)"

and you thought it better to not do that here and embarrass yourself?
you can somewhat streamline that because a non prime number is just a product of primes so once you know the primes below 15 or whatever there is no reason to test dividing by non-primes
but then you end up with an array of primes it depends on what you're constrained by
>>50764852
>I don't understand why we are only checking up to the square root of n, but whatever.
because (sqrt(n)+1)*sqrt(n) > n
or put another way
(n+e)n = n^2 + en > n^2
so why ever test larger numbers?

i suppose this doesn't quite entirely explain it if you don't get it
you have already tested all numbers <sqrt(n) so when you test sqrt(n) the only new numbers it can be a factor with are >= itself
since if n were the product of sqrt(n) and k = sqrt(n)-6 then you'd've already tried k and found that
so yeah a number might be (sqrt(n)+5)*7 but you've already tried that when you tried 7 so you aren't learning new information by testing sqrt(n)+5

If you think that management at these companies universally want to deal with shitskins and pajeets that write absolute garbage for code, think again. It works in the short term, but once the software starts breaking unpredictably then management is stuck trying to hire people to fix the spaghetti code, which is hard to do when the foundational design is dogshit.
