Unless you want to trade your hard earned gems, epin lightsabres or butterly knives for real world money I guess. Agreed, servers maintaining the infrastructure is fundamental, but some sort of ownership over your avstar and electronic assets could need a timestamp or something in all sorts of games where you grind it.

Gamers want a hyped game to feel alive. If you could build in leasing strategies or unlock ownership and access areas etc only achieved by skill or merit you'll be able to build some hefty sorts of utility value if the player base is educated enough not just to throw dollars at gold chests in the goyshop.
Think Runescape, Counter Strike. WoW eternity vanilla. Not all grinding games will be better off, but think in the lines of if you'd be 12 yesrs ood and jobless, wouldn't you like to find ways to earn some cash playing games? A layer of ownership built off the game itself is where it can branch off to real fi.

>VR is dead
It's literally getting more popular every year.
the technology used to suck but now it's actually usable and getting better rapidly
Normies/families are buying it like buying a new game console

all these multi billion dollar corporations aren't investing in NFTs and the metaverse for nothing

It unironically could cause Facebook (sorry, I mean "Meta") to shit the bed. They've invested a lot into this for some reason. I have not really seen other large social media buying into it.

I'd prefer every single one of them were marched outside and strung up but I guess I'll settle for this as a temporary measure instead.

Facebook took a step off the cliff by launching their project WAY too early, and when the time comes they'll be too traumatized to invest in VR again while companies like Apple will pick it up lmao. Facebook started with the wrong foot by selling 500$ VR googles AT A LOSS for this janky kinect 2.0 sample test called metaverse. If anything, keep these inflated prices up and the Chinese will come up with their own metaverse for their cheap and widely accessible headsets

$56k is high compared to europe and you mostly have cheap food and gas etc but 100k+ is not very common, often they're techy jobs in scammy silicon valley startups that lack job security and where the high cost of living eats up a lot of it

I actually take back some of what I said, facebook has some legit horrifying black box shit like Project Cambria which is a VR where it tracks all your body without needing hand/feet gadgets. It will give them some highlights but again the thing will be really overpriced

You literally just had to either use the games or look at user statistics to realise how over valued the concept is at its current iteration.

What the fuck even are metaverses?
100% of the project using the term are shit that can be cobbled together in UR engine in an afternoon.
Like for what purpose do they exist why would anyone use a gay 3D browser game instead of a good old webpage

The metaverse is supposed to be some huge and persistent online space, with some huge support from most big retailers and media producers, maybe even gov support and workplaces so you can fully "live" inside it.
A space you must access using some advanced virtual reality set up

simply put, a matrix lite

But we are DECADES from that, current virtual reality tech is GARBAGE, it must be something cheap you can use all day, like a small visor.
Ideally you also need some real tactile feedback, for the full body even.

The current metaverse stuff are just cheap clones of second life and other old online rpg, all scams.
And meta facebook is just facebook, they lack all the tech.
