Consider that the 2008-2010 guidance had like 80% of the items come true, this seems like a pretty good way to sniff out their plans and ride the coattails of it.

For example, "infectious diseases" is obviously mpox, but I saw a case of polio in NY and even ebola get mentioned. Extreme weather is going to fuck up crops, and livelihood crises could simply be anything along the production/retail chains as businesses have to scale down.
Cybersecurity and digital inequality mean old people get fucked by the internet of things being incomprehensible to them, though a minor issue for anyone here.

Asset bubble burst, price instability, commodity shocks, debt crises, and infrastructure are all interrelated, depending on where and what gets affected. Seems to imply that a technology based issue will cause a lot of problems with economics (HFT traders being "hacked", perhaps?) There would be a ripple effect once things start to get fucky.

WMD is an old meme and probably just a justification for going to way with Putin or Palestine or Iraq/Iran again. Who cares. State collapse could refer to that or perhaps Taiwan or Korea being affected.

Biodiversity is interesting, because it means a certain crucial species, such as honeybees could become threatened, which affects the food supply.

https://spintwig.com/spy-wheel-45-dte-cash-secured-options-backtest/

I was talking with the author of this article (his website today)^^

This guy has blown the fuck out of reddit thetagang dipshits who think wheeling is a good idea. He posts a lot of backtests on reddit and from what I could gather he's a pretty smart dude. Let me copy/paste what he wrote, it's pretty funny. And highly encourage you to read his post, it elucidates how useless wheeling is as a strategy. No edge, no positive EV. No nothing.

What he said:

"I do however have a comprehensive wheel backtest on my site https://spintwig.com/spy-wheel-45-dte-cash-secured-options-backtest/

It was posted to r/options and r/thetaGang about a 18mo ago. Based on the responses in r/thetaGang, you'd have thought they were all children that learnt the truth about Santa.

"what do you mean it underperforms buy and hold?"
"you did it wrong, you need to <insert some random variation>"
"...but my cost basis."
"it's impossible for covered calls to lose money, my account value keeps going up even when my shares are getting called away"

And a bunch of other logical fallacies. Most people that "got it" were downvoted into oblivion."

No. Absolutely not, you are literally describing the exact reason you do NOT wheel on single names if you're trying to extract volatility.

The point of owning a single name stock is that there’s generally higher volatility to the upside. When you cap that with a covered call strategy you’re just limiting the upside while staying exposed to the downside volatility.

Nobody ever thinks about these things in the mainstream retail trading community because places like /biz/ and stocktwits and thetagang are circle jerks where negative Expected Value strategies with no edge are advertised as beating the market.

SOXL is basically /smg/'s version of the thetagang garbage strategy. Both strategies have zero edge, -ve EV, and delude retail into thinking they have all their risk (i.e. basis risk, vol risk, etc) covered
>>50690290

What, selling covered calls? I'm in the "it's impossible to lose money" camp, as long as the stock doesn't drop. So far I've sold 2 or 3 cycles of contracts on UUUU, and made like 0.30/call each time, vs a stock price of 6.00. That works out to 5% a month, or around 60% a year under ideal circumstances. Let's be very conservative and say it's only a fifth of that - 10-12% gains APR by running it, which is like twice what a dividend would pay.

Okay this makes sense to me. In others, CCs aren't good because they violate the efficient frontier and have skewed risk:return.
And I suppose if you wanted to do volatility you'd do calendar spreads or what have you, whereas stock is a delta play

My argument is then: you're long delta but receiving premia as a way to hedge mild downside risk (as a collar would), in the form of a cash moat, which you then reinvest into the stock, as a DRIP would. Besides, what PTs are these people on Reddit setting? If I had WMT (and I do), I would sell 150 strike calls against a share price of 120-130 for 30-45dte. Something that's 2 SD's on the upside away from the current share price. If it exercises, you lock in profits and layer out, and if not, you keep going.

>What, selling covered calls? I'm in the "it's impossible to lose money" camp, as long as the stock doesn't drop
And this is exactly why the average covered call/wheel seller is never going to make it, ever. Because they are capping their volatility to the upside.

>So far I've sold 2 or 3 cycles of contracts on UUUU, and made like 0.30/call each time, vs a stock price of 6.00. That works out to 5% a month, or around 60% a year under ideal circumstances.

Re-read what you just wrong and understand how fucking stupid it sounds
>60% a year in ideal circumstances
>Covered Call tards and Wheelers think they can get like 4000 bps of alpha yearly because they can accurately predict call price.

Over a long enough time period, the strategy you are describing is hilariously terrible.

Here's the only way covered call sellers and wheelers actually make money: timing luck.

If you're just wheeling equities with solid fundamentals, you're almost always better off going long with leverage.

A lot of you call sellers/wheelers make one GIANT mistake, which has to do with fundamentally understanding volatility and it's relationship with delta: people who use these strategies use delta as probability
80 delta = 80 PoP in their deluded worldview. WRONG.

Wheeling and CC is dangerous for new traders especially cause the high winrate is enticing. they sell OTM puts indiscriminately claiming 20% (or 60% like you LMFAOOO) CAGR is easy,

When CC guys and wheelers get into this strategy and make money it is because It’s really not theta profits that’s making them money.

It’s rather delta and a mixture of VRP.

theta gang is great until you get smooshed by an invisible steamroller trying to pick up pennies and have to re-evaluate your strategy

Especially when market perceives downturn, you’re selling a call that is priced very low

Bottom line: CC/Wheel strategies don’t generate alpha, they are beta harvesting strategies lol

>If you're just wheeling equities with solid fundamentals, you're almost always better off going long with leverage.
But unexpected events can happen and leverage works both ways, so without appropriate downside hedging, you're taking on excessive risk. A well hedged portfolio is never going to see more than like 2x leverage at most. With options and margin you can easily exceed that, with associated (and skewed) risk.

I also don't use delta as a proxy for moneyness, I look at upside and downside deviation over time. And even if something has a "100%" calculated probability, it's a moot point because NOTHING is guaranteed in the finance world (even GICs and treasuries have risk). Mathematically, a loss is more hurtful than a win is helpful, so downside risk management trumps any upside leverage play. You're right that eventually I'll get it wrong, but with correct sizing and expectations, I can minimize the losses when it happens and not get clobbered like levered ETF holders do.

If it's such a solid company, then it'll recover from a dip, and if it manages to have an upswing that breaks its average volatility, then you sell a CC on the peak

But covered calls and wheel are just not what retail traders should do.
To keep things simple we should have a profit target generally speaking. When that target is hit take it. Don’t sell calls. It’s not worth the subsequent maintenance and emotional remorse if the price went parabolic. And don’t do the other side of the coin too - sell put and if you get assigned, kept telling yourself that’s the price you were willing to pay for the shares anyway… that just stupid.

I am glad you appreciate the fact that over large time horizons with a big enough sample size n you are fucked unless you do something to hedge away that risk, which you seem smart enough to do.

Sizing and hedging away the risk on CC's/Wheels is a good start, most people who wheel are way too stupid to do that because le reddit and le stocktwits and le youtube told them they can get 60% CAGR (sorry for ragging on you but that shit made me actually lol) easily

>volatility and it's relationship with delta
This for example could be more specific. Delta is based on share price movements, not volatility (though time and volatility have a greater effect on an option's extinsic value). DDeltaDVol would be more relevant in this context, as would gamma (which tends to have a negative correlation to IV from what I've read)

Also on further thought, I don't think it's fair to directly compare CCs with wheeling (which I understand to be CCs plus CSPs), since they have way different risk profiles (or it looks like Optionstrat considers it a covered short stangle)

As far as a strictly premium harvesting strategy, it does in fact look like you're taking on a lot of unnecessary risk. For example with WMT, which is typically low IV, you set your strikes to 2 SDs away so they don't get exercised, you make $28 and move on with your life. But you're long 100 shares (at let's say $120); you still have to pay the spread difference x100 for every dollar it drops below $110 in picrel. You're literally getting a 0.2% return against your entry point in exchange for having to eat shit if something happens (and historically it's much easier for a largecap to drop than it is to explode in price).

So at the very least, I'd much more likely recommend doing CCs and avoiding short puts in the context of premium farming.
If you're selling strangles, then you'd best do it as part of a horizontal or condor spread and do it based on IV movements imo

You're right, I fucked up actually. Drinking wine and one 2 hours of sleep.

I have no idea why i brought up vol's relationship with delta (DDeltaDVol aka Vanna lol), Vanna has nothing to do with CC's really.
DDeltaDVol (Vanna) also is irrelevant unless we are talking really fast, quick meme-tier movies.

Second order greeks (like Vanna) can sometimes be important but sometimes not really important for retail traders trading in small size.

They do get really important for everyone in tails though. The tails on options (~20 delta or lower) barely have any gamma exposure or delta or vega.
The risk exposure is mostly coming from second/third order greek exposures.

I meant specifically that selling CC's and wheeling is a play on VRP and you must udnerstand VRP and ERP if you want to wheel/do CC's.

As I mentioned before, this strategy we are talking about is not for harvesting alpha, it is for harvesting beta.

>as would gamma (which tends to have a negative correlation to IV from what I've read)
Source on this corr between IV(specifically IV or vega?) and gamma?

For most wheelers/CC sellers, gamma shouldn't be too relevant since unless you are selling weekly options naked like this fucking batshit insane moron >>50690330 is confident is a good idea, the gamma exposure is minimal.

Also while I am here getting slowly drunk on a mostly empty stomach on a couple hours of sleep, let me add to my rant.

Gammatards are getting out of hand (mostly on twitter tbhonest). I just hate gamma market theory.
It's like saying the market fell because a lot of people sold.
Like that's obvious. Gamma based market theory sounds cool but its just not the key to getting positive EV on longer term horizones: being a voltard is.

From one of the links in the OP, the squeeze metrics site, specifically:
https://squeezemetrics.com/monitor/download/pdf/The_Implied_Order_Book.pdf
https://squeezemetrics.com/monitor/download/pdf/short_is_long.pdf
I spent about an hour skimming and reading through it and playing with calculators. Kind of a moot point though, since you won't get a gamma squeezy squoze from retail (MM's would halt the market before anything nasty happened) and such a blow up would be a controlled demolition that retail would have no effect on.

The only unknown with option pricing is IV, so naturally volatility IS options, plain and simple. All the greeks and other metrics are just a means to an end in that regard.

And for as much as I claim to understand options mechanically, I've always been poor at intuition and forming it into a strategy, so maybe I don't understand it that well after all.

Oh also, have you ever looked into volatility surfaces? Are those a useful tool to learn about? As far as I can tell, it just lets you see where the low/high spots of volatility are, and compare it with the HV. Maybe if you were going to long/short IV in complicated spreads it could work.

I mean, price action can literally do this, as prices rise or fall, it tests support and resistance on the order books. A lot of the markets are simply based on sentiment. I like options because they have defined risks and you can choose what weaknesses you're exposed to.

Plus gamma market theory is useful: If enough redditors screech about it and start hunting for potential stocks to squeeze, all you have to do is think about how the market maker is going to counterplay that and ride their coattails, if you're an opportunist.

But I don't have the time or resources to micromanage things like that, so I'd rather just set up a comfy short call and earn a little extra premium

Thanks for reminding me that I need to get back to working on this bullshit.
My goal was to look at WDI data and historical market data to detect cycles and see how rises and contractions in eg population, GDP, and monetary policy could affect forex currencies and see how that affected bonds and stock prices, then pick out the winners

Pretty lofty idea, I know my way around C# but it's not designed for this sort of thing, and then I was struggling with Python, Lua, and R's coding paradigms coming from a strong OOP background

Always payed my lot rent on time. I paid cash for the trailer and lot fees were only $350 a month. It was the cheapest goddamn living ever, but I got tired of all the bottle kids banging on my door asking me if I knew where their parents were. I knew where their parents were, I just wasn't gonna break the news to them. Used to pay the kids in snacks to do yard work for me. It was a self sustaining economy in a lot of ways.

Taiwan is chip manufacturing central. She's checking up on her totally coincidental investment just prior to regulation and legislation that saw her risky and not totally coincidentally successful investment value skyrocket.

Btw, her house (walled estate) is pretty good for someone who earns only a few hundred k a year. I would have thought she'd have to be worth millions to get that. So many investment coincidences!

I think the US is aiming for some small amount of leverage against China with this. The calculated gamble being she goes and China's bluff about retaliation is called. Dangerous game though and questionably small payoff if they're right. If China isn't bluffing it means probable war. I really don't think US want actual hot war with China right now.

Looks much better with the reduction in mouth movement, if you really wanted to make it pop you could time it to the cadence of the words being spoken against the audio of the scene. The quality of the video is still great because vp9 is the fucking tits and is now supported. I now give it an 8/10, good work.

I honestly laugh whenever says America is on the downtrend. We're the strongest country in both hard power and soft power by such a large margin as to be laughable. Like this whole Pelosi/Taiwan situation, if China ever started a conflict they would be blasted into the stone age within 3 months (they haven't been in an armed conflict of any kind in nearly 50 years).
America is numbah one baby, and will remain so for the rest of our lives.

Do you all realize the potential power that USA yields? Like come on, we're in a constant uptrend in both market and societal improvements, there's no fucking way we're in a "bear market" of the country. I mean take Ubisoft for instance, the CEO's son quit the company and started its own NFT project (ultimate champions) and it's already projected to hit moon levels considering he's gonna put his own ubisoft stocks into it
My point is that any company can prosper in the usa
