I still think digital art nft's have potential but everything we've seen so far has been absolute trash and the better applications for nft's have not really been fleshed out.

Utility NFTs aren't any good either, they don't currently do anything that couldn't be done without NFTs, all the block chain does is add a few minutes of waiting to every action. As actual utility they're no better than art NFTs. The best true claim you can make is that it's possible for utility NFTs in the future to be good.

There are limited and specific use cases for being able to sell something over the internet as a token with timestamped block chain verification. The token has to represent something which actually exists, which is unique in some way (or can't be used by more than one person), and which benefits from being sold online in advance of being used rather than later. Specific examples:
>Fragile sculptures which can be traded between art collectors and museums, and only transported when and if its owner wants to display it, as an alternative to constant risky shipping of the piece from dock to dock
>Plane tickets for a specific flight in a specific seat, as a replacement for the current procedure of overbooking every flight
>Concert tickets, replacing the current Ticketmaster system of virtual queueing for sale and mashing F5 at midnight
But in all cases the value of the token would never be greater than the value of the thing it represents. Also, crucially, that's not what NFTs are used for right now, none of the above shit is normal and none of it is becoming normal.
