>DUDE i just LOVE the hustle and bustle of the big city, it’s so DYNAMIC and makes me feel like i’m in one of my favourite TV SHOWS. you should totally come on down to my studio apartment, it’s got EXPOSED RED BRICK walls and everything, we can crack open a nice hoppy ipa or three and get crazy watching some cartoons on adult swim! and dude, dude, DUDE, we have GOTTA go down to the barcade- listen here, right, it’s a BAR where us ADULTS who do ADULTING can go DRINK. BUT!!!! it’s also an ARCADE like when we were kids, so we can play awesome VIDEO GAMES, without dumb kids bothering us. speaking of which megan and i have finally decided to tie the knot- literally -we’re both getting snipped tomorrow at the hospital, that way we can save money to spent more on ourselves and our FURBABIES. i’m fuckin JACKED man, i’m gonna SLAM this craft beer and pop open another one!!!

I unironically know someone like this and when he and his wife come to dinners with all of our friends, he's just looked at like a circus act.

this is something i've been thinking about for a while. a bunch of my friends moved to NYC, LA, SF for work.

i completely understand that those cities generally offer better jobs and networking opportunities, but aside from that is the "experience" of living in the big city something i'm missing out on? i live in a really small city, have a job that pays well for my experience and have solid growth opportunities. so if i wouldn't really have a career improvement, is there any point of moving to a big city?

should i take a vacation to NYC to experience what it's like? i feel like i'm missing out on an integral life experience but can't tell if it's actually that big of a deal or if i've just had my head filled with tv and movies talking about how great the big city is

Vacation is a poor representation of life. It's usually much more pleasant and functional. I've lived in a few big cities and the networking is underrated if you haven't had it before. E.g., when I was 20 and lived in Chicago I made $3000 on a weekend helping a 90 year old rich widow move out of her luxury condo. I was sitting at a cafe and she just straight up asked if any men could help her. It's just shit like this that can't be quantified. That being said though, it's tiring as fuck to live in a truly big city like NYC. There's never any peace. SF doesn't compare at all.

>>50642561 as someone who moved from a smaller city (sac) to SF its really the same vapid bullshit, everyone is either an alcoholic or cokehead in the bigger cities.Nobody is an actual local. Dating = more options but good luck finding a chica that isnt a whore.

i see what you mean, makes sense that a vacation wouldn't show you the reality of living there. could you elaborate on what you mean by "never any peace"? is it that there are so many people in your vicinity and you cant get a break from them?

>>50642609
i guess the ultimate strategy (if you have enough money) is to live in a big city for a year or two so you don't have any regrets in the future.

that's an interesting point, it seems like it would be true but surely decent women exist in large cities as well? would be amazing to find a woman who's led an interesting life but is also not a whore, though i don't know how rare that is. i've only been in one relationship in my life so i don't really know what women are generally like outside my bubble

Do I think it's worth "experiencing" so that you can come to your own conclusions instead of just echoing other people? Yes.
Do I think it's worth moving to a city if you don't have any meaningful job opportunities? With some exceptions, no.
Living in a city is exhausting if you're just an average person. It's noisy, dirty, cramped, expensive, and a pain in the ass to get anywhere. Once you get past a certain level of wealth, you can afford to live in areas of those cities where those problems are mitigated (UES in NYC, west LA, etc), which can lead to a very high quality of life and is why they're the expensive parts of town. If you don't have a specific reason for being there, you will probably have a better quality of life living in the suburbs.
P.S. truly rural areas are equally not worth it, just for different reasons (poverty, worse access to just about everything that requires money, etc).

Sry bro, I know that feel. It sucks ass. The burn goes away but you need to get every drop of piss out, it’s a slow process that takes up to an hour or more.
