If the point of crypto was to remove the need of trusted 3rd parties and to remove the power from the top 1% (money wise) then wouldn't PoS just be a open invitation to rape an entire market?
all you need to close to 51% of the coins (I know that's improbable) and you would always win the block, no one else could ever hope to gain block rewards if you're a rich person who ICO's or dca's or flat out purchases more coin than the rest of the holders.

Sounds like an awesome idea.

If you send around coins like a manic the data is kept for 5yrs. If you sit on the coins for years you can at least always see where they came from up to 10 steps.

Even this would greatly reduce the data of the blockchain and after a while the blockchain would become fixed at around a certain size.

Just like how a Merkle tree can track if any of the leaves have change by just tracking a single hash,

in MINA they merge zero-knowledge proofs about many transactions into one proof.

So essentially the 22kb is a zero-knowledge proof that many other zero-knowledge proofs are all verified.

There is no trust involved. Anybody can participate in the network.

The downside of MINA is that unlike Ethereum, the MINA smart contract can only store 8 field elements which are 32 bytes each. So in most smart contracts you need to use another P2P network like IPFS to store your contract data.
