They're not going to audit all the code, only the commits done by TR, which won't take long (not even close to the 6-12 months people are fudding here). Basically, the devs were going to put out the update on August 12th, but some of the validators said they wanted an external security audit of the code. At first the devs were thinking that this would delay them up until August 31st or September 12th. Instead of waiting for that though, they decided to just release the code now. Anyone can see the code and audit it now, including the validators, independent coders, and security auditors. The validators can also choose to run it, so we're waiting for enough of the validators to start running the code for the update to go live. I can't imagine they really have much reason not to considering they make their money off of staking. The first thing, dear Biblegamer, is there are multiple burns in the works. The first burn was passed via Terra governance proposal 3568 which only applies to *on-chain* transactions. Although the proposal passed, it has not been adopted by the validators. The Terra Rebels dev team programmed the code and everyone is waiting to see if 2/3 of the validators will adopt it. Prop 3568 directs the on-chain burntax to stop once the supply reaches 10b. On-chain volume is negligible and one of the devs estimated it will take 100 years to reach the 10b supply.

So why are people still hyped on LUNC? Because based CZ essentially confirmed Binance will add their own burn tax if the on-chain burn is implemented. It is likely other CEXs will follow Binance and add burn taxes as well (smaller CEXs such as Coininn and MexC have already done so). The 100 year timeline to burn through supply will shorten dramatically if CEXs start burning because the volume is on exchanges. Whether the CEXs will stop burning once supply is at 10b remains to be seen. Pretty much everything remains to be seen at this point. All we have is faith and hope.

In the US it's when you sell to either fiat or a different crypto.
But each taxable event is categorized differently
So an example of the taxable events are something like:
