Look up reverse sear steak. Its how i cook my steak. I only do this to ribeye steak. You use a paper towel to dry it off. Then put in the fridge uncovered perferably on top of a metal rack so air can get to all sides. This drys the steak out its akin to dry aged steak. But you only do this for about 2 days. It seems odd and looks like a dried out piece of meat. U also salt and pepper it to let it absorb that for 2 days. Take it out of fridge and let it warm up some on the counter. Now cook it in a pan or grill with butter or oil for 3 mins each side then put in oven om broil for 4 mins. I usually skip the oven. U can do this with really any cut of steak. But ribeye is expensive and usually why I put in the effort. I learned this from a Korean chick that knows how to cook well.

I don't get how you say that you began learning to cook 2 years ago and can't even cook a fucking steak.

You can age your steaks like the above anon said, his method is correct. If you can't do that, the next best thing is to season the meat while it's at room temperature and rub some olive oil over it, then wait for your pan to get really hot. Sear both sides on high temperature for a minute until you get a crust, without moving it more than once to flip it over.

Lower the heat and add 2 tablespoons of butter, a clove of garlic, rosemary and thyme. Keep pouring the buttery liquid on the top of the steak. After 5 minutes, or when your temperature gauge says 55 degrees Celsius (not mandatory to have but it really helps), remove the steak and let it rest for at least 5 minutes. This ensures the buttery seasoning gets absorbed by the cells of the inner part of the meat.

No smoke or charcoal flavor when pan frying it and it's a Maillard reaction --not burnt. I suggest a cast iron skillet and Irish butter. Salt/season your steak and let it sit out until it reaches room temperature. Heat the pan with plenty of butter between 149c and 260c. Take your salted/seasoned room temperature steak and drop it in the hot butter and let it sit there for 5-7 min (depending on thickness) and do not disturb it. Flip it and do the same for the other side, but use a spoon to scoop up and baste the top with melted butter. Remove from heat and let it sit for 10 min. Remember, if you have to apply brown sauce or any other condiment to your steak, it's not cooked right.

Oil in pan sear 1 side HOT flip when browned typically 2-3 minutes. Butter goes in with whole garlics crushed and thyme you then spoon the melted butter on to the top of the steak until another 2-3 minutes. Depends on the cut of your steak however
