Built myself up enough to be pretty much irreplaceable and having contacts at competition if there was a fluctuations, so job secure. What they really mean is it paid well in 1970 (and if you go back to look at data from the time it really did), but “engineering” has had this reputation of being high paying ever since then despite it literally not being a high paying field anymore. Entry level wages have been stuck at 60k since 2008, it takes 5 years to MAYBE get to 80k, but you HAVE TO switch jobs to do that because your boomer cocksucker boss won’t let you, he’ll make sure you’re making 64k no matter what.

And what am I doing today? Same as every other day, literally fucking everything. Every single open ended question gets passed onto engineering at my company, anything that requires some sort of basic analysis or thought gets passed into engineering. Any decisions made by people outside of engineering almost always fuck everything up. Nobody respects engineers either, the blue collar subhuman trash I have to interact with don’t even fucking read the work instructions they’re given and then fuck something up and blame engineering (“you engineers ain’t know what ur doin!”). And now I’m currently sitting at my desk like this Frisco Pepe waiting on my faggot, manlet “boss” to tell me whether or not he’s going to send me to some customer site FIVE FUCKING HOURS AWAY to do some sort of mundane thing that “needs” to be done by the end of the week (it doesn’t, I already know this because I’m not a retard). So in the next few hours I’ll be finding out whether I’ll spend 5 hours driving tomorrow, getting a hotel in some podunk shithole town, and then spending an hour explaining to some retard who can’t read, write, or think how to do some trivially stupid thing, or if im going to have to squeeze all of that in on Friday with no overnight stay (10 hrs driving + getting the task done).

And this is all for a $65,000 salary, no yearly bonus. So yeah, FUCK mechanical engineering.
