this is absurd... this scheme is like a CD from a bank in a market driven by awareness of inflation. not even remotely possibly the case. LCS owners DO stack personally and DO stock their stacks when they decide to move their personal metal... but buying inventory for years long hold is counter profiteer... a shop owner can flip for half a percent profit and turn over enough inventory to make more than a long term hold... its literally why they run a fucking shop with unilateral buy-sell policy at all times.

what happened is this -> >>50422291 and distributors also buy second hand to resell to shops. the only way this wouldnt be a significant part of the entire business is if old bullion were routinely melted down, but how often do you see someone melting .999 from the 90s to recast today?

the euro will collapse. short term, i wouldn't be surprised if the market dumps pms in a scenario to gain liquidity. you could see 15 easy i think. but after that event occurs, pms generally take off, look at the 2013 banking crisis, after 08 pms dump, the rise for years when confidence in the euro banking system is called into question. PMs are a long term hold, make sure you have cash, like 6+months of expenses put away. In the current system we live in cash is still king, you need to pay your bills. i cant tell you the future, but you need a base of both pms and cash, only you can really know your financial situation, which you need to work on, and your current and future income stream. https://www.goldmoney.com/research/the-collapsing-euro-and-its-implications

Have any of you heard of the term Basel III? Ever since the 2008 crash, Basel III forces commercial banks and pension firms to have at minimum 85% of their assets in government bonds or fiat cash. This means that if government bonds are lower than inflation then its pretty much the same as a private individual keeping their depreciating fiat currency in a commercial bank account. On top of this the central banks can buy these government bonds from the commercial banks and pension firms that are affected by inflation and interest. How this actually functions is anyone's guess, but one thing is for sure is that the only way for fiat to crash is for the people to take all their wealth out of it and put it into commodities or real estate. Still, no one knows if this would even crash fiat because in some countries, pension schemes are mandatory so the populous is forced to use fiat which then the pension firms are forced to store 85% of its holdings into fiat or government bonds.

Multiple factors are happening at once:

1. Russia has been selling a lot of its gold reserves recently.
2. People are pawning off their gold to make ends meet now.
3. Nations with collapsed fiat currency are stocking up on the US dollar.
4. The big banks have had to disclose their gold derivatives for the year which is fucking massive, allowing them to manipulate the market.

It will eventually flip, but if you've still got cold feet just put your wealth into something else like repairs to your house while the price for tradesmen is still low.

Treasury direct dot com. Maximum of 10k a year, 1 year lock up, you can keep them forever tho. Interest rate will change with cpi change I think, will be re done in October, will probably go up. If you want to redeem them, you lose the last 2? months of interest. If you have a bunch of money sitting in your checking account, it's better than nothing, but not for everyone. The leverage is destroying the economy, as interest payments are consuming a massive chunk of the yearly GDP. Deleveraging the economy means to remove the wealth effect and spark a massive contraction in the service economy, collapse in leveraged financial assets and real estate etc.
One thing we can count on, is the central banks will survive, they are in the driver seat and will do everything they can to stay alive. And banks honestly don't care whether their loans are worth less as they can just write bank deposits at a later date and begin raking in profits. They just need their loan books to stay afloat.

I would not suggest buying them, but if you do, don't do it for any other reason than your own enjoyment; and I would really limit how much you buy since there is no resell market for them. Do not get sucked into the "clarity and rating" nonsense either, since again, no one is going to buy them from you, they are just for you to look at. All that being said, buying some here and there is not going to hurt anyone, and after 2-3 years you will have a nice bag full of shiny gems.

Probably because its use is almost entirely industrial while gold is both industrial and monetary. The monetary usage is definitely going to crank up the price I don't think it could really hurt to buy an ounce of platinum if you can afford it but do remember central banks and The Powers That Be are hoarding tons of gold, not tons of Platinum for a reason.
>>50429170
They probably adjusted the bonds for inflation and only gave $230 as a result. Which is a double kick to the nuts because that $230 now wasn't worth nearly as much as $230 would have been worth back in 2002-2003 when the bonds were bought.

Silver hasn't been a monetary metal for over 60 years, currently it's a speculative commodity. The gs ratio is a historic curiosity that adherents will have to reach back hundreds or thousands of years to find any relevance, back when governments set the ratio, funnily enough.
In 5 years:
Silver +15%
Gold +38%
You could probably stretch that back 20 and still find gold outperformed silver. When are you going to trade it? It was up to what 27 28 in COVID era, but gold was way up to 2000 also. You're speculating it will shoot up in value in the future, which is fine. But no one really trades on the gs ratio seriously.

Gold is a monetary metal as defined by basil 3. No central bank holds silver in their vault as a store of value. Buy the lowest % over spot to build weight. Saving up for an oz is not a horrible thing either. Check your local market for buyback prices also, some items are not worth as much when you try to sell them. I've observed on jm bullion the buyback spreads were +50 for eagles, +45 for buffs, +20 for krugs, something like 5 or 10 for Brits and roos. Generic is essentially flat. I mention this because the premium on an eagle was say 100, but you got +45 back, making it a "good" buy for something like that. Premiums have actually went up since the recent drops, like 120 for an eagle and only +40 back when you sell. Krugs are a better buy now. But generic is probably your best bet to build weight, this is all dependant on your local market. If the spreads on continental gold is good, buy some.

So I bought some Asahi rounds for fun from SGB, I normally buy sovereigns elsewhere for stacking, and they sent me one which has a chunk missing out of it and it weighs 0.2g less than the other non-defective Asahi rounds in my order.

I emailed their support to show them, and they emailed me back saying weight and purity is the only thing that matters for the value of bullion, condition doesn't affect it's value, recalibrate my scale as 1oz is 31.15g, and just go get it XRF tested if I'm in doubt. Am I getting rugged or is this normal?

I get they're just generic rounds so it doesn't matter if they're pretty or not, but the irony here is I wasn't treating them as investment stacks as I do that with sov coins. And it's a freaking chunk missing with missing mass, recalibrating my scale does change the fact that the normal non-defective ones are 0.2g heavier.

I just passed the pound of silver mark. I'm new to stacking, very exited for this milestone. I've been collecting Roman coins for years, recently found out what my coin collection was worth and started converting that to bullion. I'm trying to be smart, found an LCS that will give me rounds for $3.50 over spot, ASE's for $8 over. I bought a few of each today because I thought that was reasonable and they had some 1980's era ASE's. I felt good making that purchase. Honestly, stacking has helped my self-esteem. Finally have a goal other that 'more weed'.
Currently listening to Mahler, cleaning Roman bronze coins with a toothbrush, and looking at my fucking silver. I want more. Gonna assemble them for a team photo in a few. Thanks /pmg/

>> No.50435862

so i went to my lcs whose prices arent that great for the first time in a while to see what was new. guys inventory was basically the same as a year ago, us constitutional, some ASE , a little generic, and a very small amount of gold (1/10 us gold eagle, a couple gram bars and a krug)

his prices were 32 for an ase, 20x face for us constitutional, and then i asked him if he had any canadian junk. he had barely any and told me any canadian he gets, he ships ro apmex or a refiner. i bought what he had, and i think he overcharged me, he was charging me 20/oz which is fine, but i paid 25 bucks for like a little over an ounce so pretty close but i think he did something wrong. whatever it was a small amount of money so no worries there.

then i asked him if anyone was selling recently given the poor economy, and he said no. he was actually disapointed and wanted more people to be selling right now so he can DCA , and he flat out told me that much of his bullion inventory comes from dealers. why should i buy from this guy if he is just buying from apmex and marking it up another dollar? i feel bad for him but truly dont know how he stays in business, most of his inventory is numismatics, can you really stay afloat with that stuff?

his price on us junk seemed alright, at 20x face, think i should pick some up? actually seems cheaper than some of these sites, but i hate to pay close to 28 dollars an ounce on anything right now even if its constitutional

I'm not a fan of taking this shortcut to pricing constitutional. One dollar of 90% is about .72 ozt. So with Ag now at $18.6/ozt, a dollar will equal about $13.40. It's a little more effort to multiply the face dollars by .72 and then by the price per ozt, but that's the bottom line and you can hammer out the deal from there. Keep in mind small sales will carry bigger percentage markups, because economy of scale.

i dont like 20x face or 19 x face either because i started stacking by researchinf and buying three 9s fine on the interner but most boomies and coin shops refer to dollar face on constitutional because it is easier to talk about since the amount of ag is an odd fraction, unlike canadisn junk. but it does present a problem as i was using .715 which all the online dealers quote, and he was using 7.3 which does change the price per ounce quite a bit

nevertheless, on decent condition kennedys for example he was charging 10 bucks a piece which is a less than i can find online but not a huge hurdle to overcome since the premiums are just retarded

I don't know why the original Spanish coins were so, but the U.S. dollar is a specific weight of silver as outlined in the coin act of 1793. This is the actual, true definition of a dollar. 0.77335 ounces troy of silver. (Not that this is the actual written value, it's a very exact amount allowed.)
The Spanish coins were a very familiar unit of currency at the time in the colonies and so were chosen as the baseline for the US dollar.
"Kids these days don't know the value of a dollar" is a very true complaint, and often the one speaking it wouldn't know either.

I couldn't help but hear some of the conversation and these people made me wince several times. They were selling their dad's coins (I gathered he was no longer living, and that it was probably the man's father) and had absolutely no idea what most of them were worth, them having only done some brief ebay searches. I'm talking selling morgans graded 65 for $35. I don't fault the owner because I know him and he runs a small-time operation where he has to make what profit he can, but why wouldn't people inheriting coins do adequate research before they go to sell? If my father died and left me a bunch of anything I would make sure I knew everything about that item, not just its price, before I even considered selling it. Are these just people without a very strong connection to their parents? Lazy people? Idk, it just made me feel kind of depressed for a little while and I called my dad to tell him I love him. Reichanon made a killing with the spot price crashing, if he's smart he'll make more and sell them himself.

Not really. Half the cost isn’t even for the silver. Spot dropped a couple bucks so he’s up maybe a few hundred more. Big deal. He already said he was making 100-150 for himself.

Had that happen to. I think my CC company doesn't trust Pozible. I told them to trust it and re approved the charge and alls good.

The frog statue funding site also only accepts 2 of the big 3 credit card companies but the payment screen lets you pay with all 3. Had to read the FAQ to figure that out.

>I would make sure I knew everything about that item
I'm in that situation, several inheritances ended up in my appartment. At one point I cannot do it any longer, it's just too much. Coins, to some degree. But then the huge stamp collection. Add the (vintage, rare) books. The watches. Paintings. And other collectibles and equipment. It's tiring. Each is a completely different category I know nothing about. I tried to gain some knowledge about each but every time I realized that it just opens the door to more research. I asked people (mostly boomers who have that stuff themselves), but they're detached from today's markets and often they start telling me useless anecdotes from decades ago.
Now it all clutters my apartment and the background noise of unfinished business keeps me somewhat unhappy.
My approach now is to go to dealers/collectors and ask for a minimum price for each item/category, everything below I take home again and then scrap it.

My guess is just laziness. Most normalfags just think old coins are "weird trinkets" of the past like stamps and china dolls are and don't think to look. What doesn't help is that a lot of old people didn't bother to hoard actually good coins, just weird but ultimately useless shit like Buffalo nickels, B anthony dollars and wheat pennies. So a lot of times when the kids do go to sell off it's nothing but garbage and so they get turned off from coins in general.
My older brother recently got an inheritance which was 90% stamps, some assorted junk and a few coins. Of those coins the only things even any good was a 1986 silver eagle proof, $2.40 face in 90%, and a 1986 proof set he let me keep.

The price usually goes up because the Amerifats aren't there to sell everything for a quick buck.

that's just how it goes. People that aren't bullion dealers wont get top dollar for their stuff. that's how the world works. For most people making money at their job is easier than trying to squeeze extra bucks out of this kind of deal. People just want to sell and be done with it.

I buy lots of this kind of stuff and watches all the time. Most people want just a halfway fair price and be done with it. I collect old gold watches and most people are happy with scrap or scrap x 1.1 for old stuff- even if it's never been worn. Its just how the world is.

I don't know what's up with Asahi but weird stuff is going on in their warehouse.

I purchased a new 10oz bar not that long ago and there's a blood stain on it. And yes, it's still plastic sealed.
