I have applied for a job recently, it is actually a really simple job. I just have to check a database and report entries based on a set of rules to my supervisor, so he can delete it (I don't have the permission sadly). But there are some mayjor drawbacks. First I don't get paid, I know it sucks but I need some work experience in my field and nobody else will hire me. Second I always have to be online in a communication program so that my boss can see that I am actually working (the job is wfh). But arguably the worst part is that nobody likes the people who are doing my job. I always see very mean entries in the database about me, people complaining that I have deleted their entries etc. even though I can't delete stuff. Should I keep this job for at least one year so that I claim some work experience or should I leave and look for something better?

There will be layoffs everywhere anon. Considering your undeservingly big salary and junior position, you will most likely be the first one on the chopping block. Be sure to keep your eye on the puck, follow the north star and continue to champion the values of your company. That way, you might survive with just a salary cut. However, if you become stuck in the weeds while boiling the ocean, you will lose the vision and synergy, resulting in contract termination.

IF YOU believe you will get valuable marketable skills out of this then do it, 6 months max.
I have done 12 month work xperience semi- unpaid but that was at an established high status scientific institute with great coworkers and doing interesting paid fieldwork. Keep looking around, your gig sounds shitty even at full pay.

You know whats funny is I do a really similar job. I work in this stockroom for a biotech company that tests medical devices for bio-compatibility. My day consists of reading emails and getting the devices off the shelves for the techs to do the tests.

Well, that's maybe once a day. The rest of the day I enter in the numbers of the devices into a database and throw them away if they have been here too long. 40 hours a week. It is so repetitive and boring, I get $20/hr though. I could not do this for free.

What industry are you working in? What experience would this give you?
