Yeah but like I said... they're massive conglomerates. They're so spread about into different forms of entertainment that they can afford to lose on sports. If athletes get too fat and stop performing in a way that's worth watching, and viewership declines (or continues to decline), that's a drop in the bucket for DIS. This is the problem with conglomerates... it takes investment decisions away from the free hand of the market and puts it in some guy's hands. If he wants to blow billions a year on sports games... well, then he does. You can't selectively invest in DIS and exclude the sports.

I’d say do a bit more research before drawing that conclusion. Disney has a lot of issues with management, streaming numbers, and their sports contracts are a sort of net that catches anything that others don’t want to overpay, look at how much they are paying to broadcast the Super Bowl every third year or whatever.

There are also genuine short targets like Sinclair also.

However the craziness is just getting started from there. Fed rate hikes are going to bring in plenty of batshit crazy events over the next few months. Euro energy collapse, BOJ insanity, Biden needing to invade Sri Lanka so they don't adopt the ruble, black swans like that.

They borrowed and spent shitloads of other people's money then voted to cut taxes and went with "organic" farming because muh environment and all the crops failed. Basically california. Now they are blaming bogyman politicians for carrying out the policies they voted for.

Lol neither, the Indians most hated are the strongest influence as I can tell.

Though let's clarify that the country bankrupted itself having to import huge amounts of rice at inflated prices because of the WEF "eat the bugs" organic low-nitrogen farming experiment their govt signed them up for (sold them out to lol stupid peasants) that caused yields to dump 20% in just the first six months, so a (yes, very poor) country that never had to import food for the last 75 years was going to have a famine.

"Agriculture will thus be made an attractive
profession. Our agricultural policy would be to promote an
agricultural sector in which small producers using small
extents of land producing high quality outputs using modern
technological methods. "
(So great leap forward round 2 sri lanka edition)

"A methodology to be developed speedily to bring into
productive use the lands that could be cultivated profitably
but are not being done so now, for a variety of reasons."

Kruschevs plan to farm Siberian wastes with corn.

"Building up a community of citizens who are healthy and
productive, we need to develop the habit of consuming food
with no contamination with harmful chemicals. In order to
guarantee the people’s right to such safe food, the entire Sri
Lankan agriculture will be promoted to use organic fertilizers
during the next ten years. For this, production of organic
fertilizer will be accelerated"
(Muh enviroment)

"• Income tax on productive enterprises will be reduced from
28 to 18 percent.
• The Economic Service Charge (ESC) and Withholding Tax
(WHT) will be scrapped.
• A simple value added tax of 8 percent will be introduced
replacing both the current VAT of 15 percent and the Nation
Building Tax (NBT) of 2 per cent.
• PAYE tax will be scrapped and personal income tax will be
subject to a ceiling of 15 percent."

" The debt trap we will

There is no bottom for many years and I will tell you why. Zoom out. Look at past bubbles, all were built on some frontrun hoping the next cutting edge sector to kick capitalism, aka, sell as much to as much people possible has yet to be discovered and confirmed and vast huge amounts of liquidity that is nonexistent needs to be suckered into equities to be dumped on. Ask yourself are people going to be buying cars at exponential numbers like mid 20th century? Are people going to be buying this new invention called the computer at exponential numbers like 1980s and 1990s well into 2000s? Iphone literally saved the last big fat dump recession. There is NONE for now. The best they have is to roll out used up zuckerberg for metaverse and have him make some weak fucking statements like "oh think of all the people buying in metaverse". We will see so much desperation as interest rates climb drop a bit climb drop a bit climb and every other few months its "a new dip". The big moment that will clap big tech and send index funds into hell for a decade minimum will be twitter. It will lose valuation in elon's legal battles and elon will be the turning point of no return for desperate mumus. No orange man bad around to pump twitter audience no easy money just tired investors losing it all for years and years.

Do you not yet understand that value (not money, value) is an abstract concept. When shit hits the fan, it wont be a 1 to 1 translation of something lost somewhere that is gained in equal measure elsewhere. The "value" will evaporate, but all of the people will say money was lost because they don't want you understanding this subtle, but crucial distinction. Thats why ive been minimizing my shit and trying to turn to harder assets. At the end of the day, a houses value doesnt just magically turn to 0 like your precious techie or asscoin stocks, because at least some of its value is actually real and immutable/invulnerable to the actions of schizo markets

Would a miss on retail sales be bearish because it means the economy is continuing to get worse, or bullish because it could temper how quickly the fed will raise rates?
I genuinely don't understand how this market responds to news anymore.

Yes, I understand.
My point is that you can write off future years gains against the loss. Don't have to make it back same year.

I pretty much blew up in the covid crash. Thankfully I made it all back plus more riding oil.
I don't think today is an ideal time to look for massive return ideas though. Maybe closer to November we could see some real discounts.

I see now, you can go -2K per year, but that pool of losses can be applied to any amount of gains. Good distinction, thanks for the tax lesson. I'll stop trying to play so aggressive now that the window to offset that huge loss in wider. November does sound pretty good, I'm thinking I'll start DCA'ing around September if these rate hikes slow down.

>With valuations for the market, as a whole, near historic highs, buying SPACs at or near NAV can provide a favorable risk/reward. Because the SPAC holds in trust safe securities, its NAV should not deviate too far from $10, given the opportunity for arbitrage there. In other words, the downside may be limited. On the other hand, if investors become enthused about an announced deal, we are seeing SPAC shares trade well above NAV. Of course, as the share price increases above NAV, the cliched margin of safety declines, and the risk becomes more like that of any other stock.

>I actually put some thought into these
Not enough, apparently.

NRDS is total garbage, but it's sitting on a 30% net cash position as a safety net. Quick look at the numbers shows a a potential 10x cashflow if management and SW team expenses were gutted. Revenue growing right now, so perhaps the R/D is justified though. Like many broken SPACs that dumped on retail at the top of the bubble, there's a real business there if you ignore the insane launch valuation. It's just waiting to be taken back private at the right price.
The thing about sites like nerdwallet is that it's entirely based on bidding for google ad space. If clickthrough rates fall, they can bid less. If the economy goes to shit - everyone else is probably bidding less too, so it all evens out.

Realistically though, credit card companies will pay up even MORE for affiliate marketing during recessions. They want those temporarily cash strapped customers.

BX runs funds. They're not taking on much risk themselves. They're also a PE vulture and could cheaply suck up some of the garbage at bottoms in the coming crash. Maybe NRDS?

Lol. Do you mean SG&A expenses?

Crunch the numbers for me, try and find out how much NRDS spends on marketing per each customer they take on.

Churn rate is the X factor for NRDS. It's not looking good for them, in terms of churn.

And not just that but something like a derivative of that, not just more but also the rate at which the cost is increasing as more users join.

>Lol. Do you mean SG&A expenses?
G&A, yes. I cut marketing back out since it's effectively an operating expense in their case.
They spent 30m on administrative + R&D last quarter. Take it private, gut that expense and just ride the site down over the next few years, and you could conceivably cashflow 400m.

>Churn rate is the X factor for NRDS. It's not looking good for them, in terms of churn.
Churn rate is irrelevant. They run a website that random people click through when it matches their search results for some financial topic. Most people aren't signing up for email spam. They want something specific.
What matters is that they take that traffic from their own sponsored clicks and get a good enough conversion rate passing the customer on to other paid services. Most people visiting nerdwallet clicked through because they're interested, so this is less difficult than some generic blog with embedded ads.

>>50367609
Oh I'm not saying NRDS is a buy. It's total garbage. It's not a short though. There could conceivably be someone out there who wants this shit and the metrics aren't so disgustingly bad that there'd be much upside shorting from here. The cash balance alone provides a hard floor since there's no ownership/jurisdiction risk to prevent a hostile takeover once it reaches net-net status.

If you want an easy short check out AMC.
